I was surprised how much offense the big ice surface took out of the game. In retrospect, it wasn't the most thrilling tournament, Canada just shut everyone down. They deserved to win.

a much larger ice surface doesnt make for exciting offensive hockey. a disciplined defensive team will just keep u to the perimeter and give u space so far away from goal that the attacking team is just to far from goal to be a threat anywyas. its also much easier to clear the zone on the PP.

Time zone difference made this year pretty much unwatchable for me.

Thank god NHL hockey is coming back.

I don't really care who's fault it is, but the whole Backstrom thing is an embarrassment for the whole tournament. I really feel for the guy. Goes all the way to Russia, plays all those games, then has to watch the gold game and may not even get his silver. And for what? Taking a cold medicine? That's awful.

McDonaugh was spectacular this Olympics. Everything in his game stood out, especially his defense and playmaking. I think fans from every team now appreciate how good he is.

I pretty much agree with every analyst who says there won't be pros in 2018. I'm not sure how I feel about it. If they have a best on best tournament every 4 years, (i.e. The World Cup of Hockey) then it will make it easier on everyone, but at the same time I don't think it will be taken as seriously as the Olympics are. Maybe they will just start picking and choosing which Olympics they go to, but I don't think South Korea will miss NHLers.

If there was a WCH in 2016 then everything would line up for a best on best tournament every 4 years for every sport.

2016 - World Cup of Hockey
2017 - World Baseball Classic
2018 - World Cup (soccer)
2019 - World Cup of Basketball (which is already confirmed)

I got to watch them, but typically after they had already happened.

Quiet frankly, it's impossible to avoid hearing about scores and results when the game is at the break of dawn and you can't watch them until the evening.

One thought I had is I am pretty amazed that Patrick Kane is a two-time Cup winner.

His game is extraordinarily selfish.

I enjoyed watching Olympic Hockey this year, though it was very disappointing how it turned out for USA.

Nonetheless, I'd prefer if they went back to some kind of amateur only format in the furutre.

JMHO

I could do without the full-fledged NHL presence being there.

How is that possible? Is it an automatic to be best goalie if you win the gold?

Backström's failed test will not affect the placing of the teams. For a team to be disqualified at least two players have to test positive for a banned substance. But I guess Backström won't be getting his silver medal because of this.

Nope, pretty sure Niittymaki was best goalie in 2006 without winning Gold, I don't remember 2010 but I don't think Luongo won. It's debatable how many tough stops Price had to make and the D was incredible but giving up 3 goals and winning a semi final game 1-0 (with another SO in the finals) is probably going to get you top goalie, whether it's totally deserved or not. Not much more he could have done anyway. Either way, awards in a 6 tournament are silly.
