Confirmed with Link: Olivier signs 6 year, 3M AAV extension

Personally I think this is a great deal especially with the contract being frontloaded. Even if he starts to age out or take a bad punch that ruins him a buyout, especially here in the next few years, will be easily minimal. I know people will complain about 6 but I was expecting 5.

Probably a very slight overpay on $$, and a moderate over-length on term.

But you know what? I don’t care. This move won’t break us even if it doesn’t age well at all. And Olivier is a great person in the room and does his role currently extremely well. Glad he’s remaining on board.

The classic CBJ overpay.

As long as ownership is willing to spend to the cap in the next 2-3 years it's not a problem in the short term, but this much term to depth players is not prudent, imo.

can finally let a breath out. Pretty happy with that deal because he's not just a face punching goon, he can actually play hockey

The length of the contract to me seems a year or 2 long, but the money isn't horrible. I think most of us expected around 3 million. Given that the cap is expected to do in the next few years, 3 million for a bottom 6 glue guy will become the norm.

I expect we are happy with him for at least three years. If I understand the buyout rules correctly, even if they decided in year four they needed to move on from him the worst it could cost is $800K for six seasons.

He just turned 28 in Feb. So this contract goes through his 33 year old season. It is longer than I would like but I can easily accept a front loaded contract with a $3 million AAV for Olivier. 10 team no trade is cool, too. I was expecting something more limiting. (My guess was 4 x $3.25 full NMC.)

Ryan Reaves is 38 and making $1.4 million. Reaves’ best season was his 32 year old year season (most points and highes average TOI) and his 2nd best season was when he was 35. So from an age perspective, this contract isn’t scary, if Olivier is a much better version of Reaves and you assume they will follow a similar age progression. (Olivier has more points and higher TOI this season than Reaves ever had.)

Boom. I'm a little surprised people have already begun to worry about year 6, or 5 for that matter. There will be absolutely no impact to the CAP and if he's unable to be effective by then, you can bury him in the minors and not have to buy him out. the CBJ is not going to carry a $120MM payroll before the end of this contract. Can't believe I'm even writing this.

Great deal for a player that deserves it. He means so much to this team and that's beyond dropping the gloves. He's turned himself into a good hockey player. Love it.

Olivier only played 10 NHL games in the 21-22 season.
He had to wonder if his career was going to flame out in the AHL.

He just signed a 18 million dollar contract. That's a hell of an accomplishment and deserved.
He’s at the very least a top 3 fighter in the NHL now, many actually fear messing with CBJ players for that reason
