Hope to discuss this guy a bit and understand where he fits in now and in the future. I saw some real good things in a recent game, I want to see more. Here is why -

1. he's very quick in athletics. His movements make our other goalies look slow.

2. Tracks the puck (i know some of you will laugh on this one, but hear me out). He lost track of a goal last game he played, but the speed of the NHL got him on that one. Some jitters perhaps. HIS TRACKING IS BETTER THEN OUR OTHER GOALIES. The way he looked around our defenceman and opposing players when tracking the puck, was clearly better then anything we got. Skinner does it well too, when he is playing well. Skinner just gets lazy or complacent and the screened shots beat him easy.

3. We're not going to win the big onion without a sharp Skinner, or somebody else. Pickard has way too many flaws that I can list. Pickard is a good AHL goalie, that's it.

4. what do we have to lose ?. Get Olivier another game or 2, before the playoffs. Rest Skinner a bit, he can't play lots anyhow, with his mind fatigue. If Olivier sucks, no big deal

5. No pressure - i can go on and on, on rookies that have done well coming in at playoff time. They have nothing to lose, and are relaxed SOMETIMES.

Gossip of April 3rd start, against the sharks. It's go time Olivier !! As mentioned, what do we have to lose, except a playoff spot i guess. Keep Peckerhead on a short leash, and let's give Olivier a chance if possible. Skinner is out for this road trip anyhow. Peckerhead has my respect, but he's a AHL goalie in most of his strengths. Sorry about the nickname 😅

Go O-Rod.

Matt Murray, Jordan Binnington, Cam Ward style.

Rookie phenom this shit and win us a cup plz!!

I don't see much downside. We aren't missing the playoffs. It's not like Vancouver or Calgary is tearing up the league.

Also, we are playoff focused. It benefits us to see how Rodrigue does. Imo you need a third goalie option. It's an injury insurance issue. Bowman didn't address it so we should see what Rodrigue's got.

I haven't watched Olivier Rodrigue but he has 130 games played in the AHL. He's a quicker skater than either of our slowpokes.

If he doesn't make the club out of camp next season St. Louis is likely to pick him up on waivers.

He will take out Pickard next year. He would have done that already, as he's better. The only reason he is not our #2 now, is he needed to play everyday, down on the farm. Now it sounds like O-Rod is having a so-so year, so let's/I'll wait a bit longer, before any Celi....should we talk about the farm team ? And why O-Rod did not dominate ? Is our D bad down there (wild guess 😜).

I hope Skinner takes all the time he needs and then some to rest up. I'd like to see what we have in Rodrigue. Funny enough, Rodrigue's one period performance has him number one for GSAx per 60 in the whole league lol.

Since Pickard really struggles with consecutive starts...I almost think Rodrigue should start the game against Vegas, but I'd also like to see Pickard break that perception and gain some confidence down this stretch. Rodrigue should definitely get a few starts though. We know what we have with Skinner and it doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever. Let him sit for the rest of the season. And hopefully the playoffs too...

Some good points you make. I do think that when Skinner is zoned in, he's better then pickard. Pickard does not have anything special anywhere, except a calm AHL veteran presence with that skillset. When Stu is not at his best, he sucks, and deserves to be mailed to the pacific ocean.

I hope O-Rod can back up Skinner. That way if Skinner shows weakness, O-Rod to the rescue (with crossed fingers and prayer)....no way Pickard can bring us to the land of glory, just not good enough.

I'm sorry, but the Skinner you think we have is long gone. You might see a glimpse of him once every five games, where four of those are bad or disappointing, but he's regressed quite a bit since the Four Nations, was one of the worst goalies in the entire league at the start of the season, and was a total fraud when the team was playing well. And Pickard is by no means an NHL starter at all, whatsoever, but he's more stable than Skinner and hasn't been given the long look Skinner already has over two failed playoff runs of more bad games than good.

Personally, I'd give Rodrigue the start against San Jose, and if he plays well, keep starting him until he has a bad game...even if it means he plays every remaining game for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs.

We know we can't count on our tandem. I don't give a f*** about "Game 7." Skinner didn't get it done, and let in a weak goal to boot, and both him and Pickard are visibly worse than last season.

Can't argue with ya. Your probably right, in fact. It's just that if Stu happens to screw his head on straight for the playoffs, he has higher upside. Pickard has no upside.

1. Pickard moves lateraly very slowly
2. Pickerd overplays lateraly too, so he gets there slow, then he can't stop, to reverse and get in position.
3. He plays small ( crouched to low, but that's his style)
4. Mediocre reflexes up top, to go with the slow legs.
5. His butterfly sucks, wide open on his knees.

At least three of those apply to Skinner, and arguably even moreso than Pickard...especially No. 1.

It would respectfully disagree, but not by much.

1.skinner moves slowly laterly, but better mechanics, he doesn't slide out of position. He's slow thou.

Skinner however, thinks he's Wayne gretzky with the puck, and looks really dumb ! Lol

Give A-Rod a shot in net is right man !!!!

And that goal Stu let in, at game 7 killed us. Your bang on, it was a simple save

O-Rod is our only hope now. Hope his dad is secretly coaching him...and he's able to forget everything Schwartz tells him.

Apperantly his Dad does teach him, on the farm. Damn right they should bring him up too !!!!

You see, I taught my son too, how to play goal.

He did teach him, then Florida snatched him up. Unless it's a huge coincidence I'd bet it's why Skinner looked like an NHL starter that one season and AHL journeyman Calvin Pickard had a total career resurgence after being coached by O-Rod's dad in Bako. And the longer it's been since Skinner and Pickard have been coached by Sylvain, the worse they seem to get. I mean I don't know for sure if that's why, but what a strange coincidence...

Olivier, if you're reading this buddy, forget everything Schwartz tells you!
Agree with most of what ya say.
Watching Skinner for many years, I seen his up/down tendencies. It's common for a young goalie, but Stu was worse then most, and never grew out of it. It's not Dustin the coach. Not this time anyhow. He still has better upside then pickard, but it's rare, as you say.
