I think that has little to do with the local factor, and more to do with the fact that the players themselves are not the "work out long term" type to begin with.

Isles fan here. If they can get him in position on the PP for example to let go of that bomb of his he'll be fine. For Wally it's all about getting that shot off. His skating has been his biggest downside but he's just one of a number of our younger players who had no chance to develop their offensive instinct under Barry Trotz. BT is absolutely horrible for an offensive minded player like Wally to develop. I hope he finds his game with the Bruins. What a waste of a good player on the Island.

I think CMac is trying too hard some nights and he's just putrid. He was playing well with Hampus earlier this season and he's looked great with Zaddy. Between the shoulder (that I think is more mental) and his suspensions, we are seeing a timid CMac with brief glimpses of what he looked like when he broke into the league.
Bochenski's problem was that he bulked up too much in the offseason and came into camp slower than molasses and it destroyed his game. Marchand had a bit of the same issue when he came into camp early in his career.

Mike O'Connell had good years on D with Boston. Appeared in 1984 NHL All Star game.
Walpole's Mike Milbury, was a story to say the least and Billerica's Bobby Miller appeared with Mike in Invasion Of The Shoe Snatchers, while being part of The NHL Record 20 Goal Scorers in 1977-78. Miller was only 21 when he scored 20 that season.
Bit of trivia, 3 Walpole and 3 Billerica natives have played for The Boston Bruins and 2 have been NHL GM'S.
Him and Beecher both need to spend some time in the press box!
This new guy, if he can make and take a pass and shoot without falling down for no reason he will be better than 70% of the roster!
Good first game by Wahlstrom ... made some good defensive plays and had some opportunities offensively. In one game he was already more involved than Johnson in all his games combined. Just hope he continues to play that way ... for the moment the pick up looks good.

Why we picking out a guy in his first full season that is near the top in team scoring. (sad list)
He has 2 less points than Zacha, who's getting first line pp minutes & plays with one of the best players in the league.
Or we could talk about the C who signed a massive deal on his line who has a huge 4 point lead over him with again, first line pp time & being paid 8* his salary.
This list goes on & on.........
Anywho, hope Wahlstrom works out and can tuck a few.

Of course it does because us Islanders fans know that anything Lou does is wrong. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Wally wins MVP for the Bruins this year.

Good first game as a Bruin for Wahlstrom offensively and defensively. Complements Coyle on the right wing.

Not a bad game. He appeared gassed at times but that would be connected to lack of game play. His skating didn’t appear to be as bad as I read.
EDMONTON, Alberta — Oliver Wahlstrom lived out one of his childhood dreams Thursday night when he pulled on a Bruins sweater for the first time as the club wrapped up its five-game Western swing with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Oilers at Rogers Place.
Wahlstrom, who was claimed off waivers from the Islanders Saturday, wore No. 71 and played right wing on Charlie Coyle’s line with Trent Frederic on the left side. He had two shots in 8:51 of ice time.
“I’m very excited,” Wahlstrom, a native New Englander, said following the club’s brief morning skate. “It’s a dream to play for the Bruins and it was nice to get to know these guys getting here, so I’m super excited for sure.”
“I think for sure just to keep things simple early on because I’m going to be pretty amped up and playing with some pretty skilled players and some new guys,” he said. “So, I think keep the first couple games simple and then when I do that, things will open up for sure.”
Wahlstrom was also set to man the elbow on the second power-play unit. He worked there during the morning skate and looked comfortable.
Though he’s had little practice time to build any chemistry, Wahlstrom has kept the lines of communication open.
“I had a couple of talks with Charlie on the power play and things like that,” Wahlstrom said. “So, I think I’ll lean on him a lot, ask a lot of questions and I kind of know him from when I worked out in Boston when I was little. He’s a really fun player. He holds onto the puck, and he makes plays. So, I think for me, just move my legs and try to find those open areas and engage my body.”
Wahlstrom said his conversations with coach — and fellow New Englander — Joe Sacco have also been productive.
“Obviously a lot of new systems, so take them in but also just go out and have fun, enjoy it,” Wahlstrom said of Sacco’s message. “My whole family is pumped up that I get to represent Boston and play for this Original Six team. I’m pretty grateful for that.”
“We’ve gone over stuff that we feel is important for him to understand as far as how we want to play, but you have to be careful that you don’t get too much information,” said the coach. “You don’t want to paralyze the player. Just go out and play and we’ll correct the mistakes that happened from our structure, but otherwise we just want to see him play.”
Wahlstrom didn’t have any family on hand for his debut, but he is expecting a huge turnout for Saturday’s home game against the Sabres, including his sister, Alexandra, who lives in Charlestown.
“Maybe it’s a free night for me playing if I’m in the lineup,” Wahlstrom joked. “But my sister’s there so that’s the most important thing that’s special for me is my sister. We’ve been close ever since we were little, so we’ll see what happens Saturday.”
He made some great defensive plays. Seems like he has some speed to his game too. I’d like to see him slot into that second line and get a look there for a couple games.

Sadly both are paired with Frederic...the pickle on top of an icecream sundae.
Other than Coyle turning the puck over and stop skating (if that's what we are calling it) on the tying goal he was splendid lol.

Oh, when he lost the puck after an aggressive stick lift (at center ice)then skating back checking over his shoulder to see who else was coming in but did not expect Zadorov and Lohrei to retreat like little kids from Diddy plus Swayman looking like he was searching for his contact lense?

Soft play all around contributed to that goal.
Your third line 5.2m checking center needs to make a better play than trying to stickhandle around traffic at the blue line, he also made two tape to tape passes to oilers in the defensive zone.
We can shit on freddy all we want justified or not but Coyle is a much bigger black hole at the moment, especially for that contract.
Getting rid of Freddy will at least bring in an asset, Coyle will cost a draft pick going out with him.
By the way that was not center ice either
I've always questioned this. Like obviously it was a part of things, but did a guys career really fall apart because he worked out too much one summer and could never get back into proper hockey shape? It seems too easy. I wonder if there was an injury, life issues or just a lack of commitment to hockey.
