I'm definitely not down for paying to get rid of Coyle. I think he is built for the playoffs. With more skillful players he will put up more points but on any team including the Bruins he is a third line anchor. Have I been disappointed by the results this year, sure, especially in terms of points, but this is a guy I fully respect to rebound back to the norm as this season continues. I have confidence in him despite the underwhelming results this far this year. Moreso then I do with Freddy.

Freddy puts us in a tough spot. I want him to be a power forward here for 15 years, but he's playing like a fourth liner this year. No skill and little grit. I'd trade him for the right return, but I don't want a second round pick or a B prospect for him. However, I also don't want to pay him 3x5 and I think he will get that or more on the open market. If he ends up being our rental this year, it's a pretty sad rental unless he pulls his head out of his @SS.

No chance. Certain marginal NHL players get hot for a season or two and then they fall back to reality. No one loses their career because they chose the wrong workout routine one summer. A number of players are laid up in the summer recovering from surgery and they are fine within two weeks after the start of the season.

Charlie Coyle has had one good playoff in his career, one of my biggest complaints about him is how bad he is in the playoffs.

I noticed that too. He skates like he’s climbing a ladder at the same time.

Then I think… is it his conditioning? That play where he could have had a 2-on-1 with Brazeau last night, but instead was like “here ya go J-dog - I’m heading off for a smoke and a pancake”

Could very well have been the right call. Don’t know. It was just strange to see.

I see a kid with some talent but will need time to assimilate to the new teammates and system. I`ll afford him that time, but by game 4 with the B`s, if he isn`t a 2ppg player, I`m declaring him a bustaroo :sarcasm:

I think his skating was affected by his surgery. He has changed his technique and I wonder if he is compensating for something like discomfort.

Could definitely use some time with the skating/skills staff to work on it. I remember him as a better skater than what I am seeing.

agree on the skating/knee issue. i think the bruins are playing the long game with wahlstrom,
hoping whatever that issue was will unlock him as a cheap middle 6 guy next year

Think they should send him to Providence. It’s worth risking waivers. Maybe he finds his game down there. He does seem to have a decent shot when he gets it off, but can’t find space for it 5 on 5. The rest of his game is very average.

Can't send him to providence
 
I am not ready to write the guy off after three games in a Bruins uniform, but he is not off to a great start. That said, expectations should have always been low with him based on how his career has gone to date. If he ends up Brett Connolly (the few seasons after he left Boston) it's a win and he could be useful. But then again, he might not amount to much and that's fine for a low salary waiver wire pickup.

it`s worth risking losing a kid who has top 4 D man for years to come to waivers? There is no chance he clears without being claimed then what?
