This is a pretty common narrative about Gretzky that I’ve been hearing for a while though. As a fan old enough to have watched all those players from that era it’s always baffled me. If Gretzky had a goal scoring “weakness” maybe you could say he didn’t score often enough on his breakaways but that’s it. The 92 goal season and the fact that he’s still the all-time goal scoring leader should suggest he might have been a good goal scorer but maybe todays hockey media doesn’t know those things.
