No Islanders fan wants to hear this, as a Rangers fan I'll take it.

Okposo is a great player for them and this could hurt the Isles here...Once of those come down to the level of other teams.

Still think they make the playoffs

To call this a big loss would be an understatement. Hopefully KO recovers quickly.

With that said, it's nice to have a guy like Mikhail freakin' Grabovski coming back in off the bench. It's comforting to see my Isles have legitimate NHL depth after all these years.

Plus, this is an opportunity for Snow to do some evaluations. It's been highly speculated that Snow is going to be standing pat come this trade deadline, but maybe being Okposo-less causes him to think twice about adding a piece or two.

I think the Islanders are ok here. I don't think Okposo is THE guy to the point where they fall apart. But it doesn't help, no question.

Any idea what the injury is? Or they are just going to go with upper body injury for 2 months?

There was rumor earlier in the week from a blogger that Okposo had eye surgery. It was quickly shot down and Arthur Staples said he was fine. I guess he was wrong!

Unfortunate but it's like they say, all teams have to deal with injuries. That's when a team's depth, coaching and character really starts to show, will be interesting to see if the Isles can keep rolling like they have.

It's true. Although, I feel the Isles injuries have gone under the radar a bit. Probably because it's not even close to what the Jackets and Pens have dealt with.

But the Isles are still towards the tops of the league in man games lost and in man games lost relative to cap hit.

Here's hoping the timetable is the maximum and the Isles don't miss a beat.

The Isles weathered injuries to the entire RD with Hamonic, Boychuk, and Visnovsky out for extended stretches and all 3 at one time for a couple of games. The Isles have better depth up front and can weather not having Okposo for a while. The cushion they put up in the 1st half lessens this blow as the playoffs are pretty much guaranteed.

Look for Ryan Strome to break out even more with likely more responsibility on the PP and a possible stint as the #1RW with Tavares while Okposo is out. Next man up.

And so it begins for the Islanders...

Beginning would be Halak getting injured. The next player that would kill us if we lost probably would be Hamonic. Forwards we have a bit more depth then the backend.

This a terrible way for the Islanders having to test their depth.

Very scary if it is the eye as it involves so many unknowns...

Was he hit with a puck?

Hope he makes a quick recovery, but it should be interesting to see how the team handles this loss.

I'm not even that worried to be honest, our forward depth is so good that I have no concerns with Grabo coming back. Not to mention that Grabner is practically just starting his season, I think we will come close to replacing KO's production just fine. Sure, it sucks, but I highly doubt it causes much of an issue. Hope we get to see JT with Strome finally.

It definitely sucks to lose KO for an extended stretch, but it's now up to the boys to elevate their games. The depth is great because of the versatility of so many of the forwards. Instead of Grabovski taking over #1RW, Nelson could take that spot and Grabovski can slide right into #3C with Grabner and Cool Lemon. It remains to be seen if Strome gets a shot, but I think Capuano likes the 2nd line too much to break them up now. Strome will probably take over KO's spot on the PP so he could really break out with increased responsibility. Nelson's skillset is probably the closest to KO's so the dynamics of the top line wouldn't lose a lot. Grabovski goes back to his natural position.

I agree.

Plus Visnovsky looks like he's back and he's a huge upgrade over Strait. The Isles record with Vis in the lineup compared to without was extreme in his favor before this season.

But aren't you guys concerned about the nature of the injury?

Eyes are so worrisome.

Took Staal a good year to come back from his eye injury.

Malhotra was greatly effected. And of course Berard never really recovered his game.

It'll be great to have Visnovsky back and Strait back to the press box, the Isles are a different team when they have their top-6 intact. The majority of the losses this year have been when the injuries hit the blue line - I don't know the exact stats, but the Isles are practically unbeatable when they're all together. Hickey should be better now that his partner is back.

If the blue line can stay healthy from here on in coupled with the depth/versatility of the forward group... we shouldn't miss too much of a beat. If Strome and Nelson can step it up another notch, then we'll be even scarier when KO returns.

That's a good point, but we don't know the extent of the injury. Everyone seems to think Okposo is fine and should be ready in 6-8 weeks no problem.
