we need a topic on this... it's clear that 2012-2013 Quick is NOT the same Quick of 2011-12

was it his surgery?? if so...he's pretty much done??

if not..then its a terrible slump?! but why??

i just dont get it... anyone knows anything at all? i need to adjust my expectations about a goalie that we signed for a long long time... :help:

What? He is fine. Tonight was a disaster defensively. Nothing Quick could have done on 3 of the 4 goals scored against him.

He's not fine, but he's not why we lost this game. Look at that Dwight Howard guy down the hallway. Back surgery is not good.

Dallas had some easy goals due to some piss poor defensive coverage. Can't fault all of 'em on Quick. Kings could've had this game but blew it. They had some good looks on net and misfired.

I think in general with a couple of exceptions, goal tending in the league has been pretty sub par so far this year...

Maybe the lack of training camp has hurt goalies in general, I don't think very many (if any) played elsewhere during the lockout.

He's definitely had his fair share of weak ones this season but tonight was all on the D. Looking right at you Scuds.

Part of being a great goaltender is being able to trust the guys around you to maintain coverage. His eyes are on the puck not the guy standing at the far post. He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.

It's like when there's a two on one, the D is responsible for stopping that pass while the goalie has to focus on the man with the puck. If a goalie gets caught cheating to the other side cause he's worried about the pass, he's gonna get burned.

I just think while still great on offense, this team really misses the defensive presence and minds of Greene and Mitchell. You can't let a team have three goals on empty net shots. That's just bad.

really huh... so acrobatic Quick is still acrobatic Quick...

his .90 save% is exactly as it was last year too...

wouldnt he save us from "piss poor" defense at times??

has he done it this year?

there's definitely something wrong with Quick...but i just cant find what...other than his surgery slowed him down

jesus christ.

1) "Pretty much done?" Even if it WERE the surgery, he's still competent for gods sake.

2) He IS in a bit of a slump! Why? Because hockey players play good some times and bad other times.

3) I hear these guys named Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene have both had parts of their bodies asplode, and they were important to our defensive game.

#3...those defensemen arent there infront of Bernier either... and Bernier has played better this year

Like I said, Mitchell and Greene. If they are back, and Quick still looks out of it, then there's a problem.

Scuds has been the worst player on the team this season IMO. Maybe that board Dubinsky gave him has him injured or something, I don't know, but since then I have been scared whenever I see him in the defensive zone and the oppositions forecheck established. That's not good.

Bernier just got hurt by the same bad coverage in the Blues game. Three goals that weren't his fault cause of guys in front of the net. The Kings were excellent last year at clearing space in front and taking care of bad rebounds. How often did you see a guy with a wide open net last year?

The goalies can only do so much.

Bernier plays a different style. With Quick's aggressive style he needs guys like Mitchell and Greene to back him up. Part of his "struggles" I definitely think has to do with the absence of those two. Quick's aggressiveness, the way he moves side to side with his leg strength is both his greatest strength and weakness. When 5 of your 6 defensemen are still developing their games, your gonna have nights like this.

If you drop the concept that players are robots generating consistent returns to scale, you'll sleep easier at night.

What you saw happen to Bernier not 3 days ago against St Louis is what happens to Quick. Quick, playing more frequently, runs afoul of our defensive mistakes more often than Bernier. In the games Bernier has played, the defense has largely been on their game. What is that, 5 out of 6 or 7? Quick has played something like double Bernier's games. How do you think Quick will look.

And yes, I KNOW Bernier has played better in his limited starts. Not saying he hasn't. But he's been helped by an inconsistent defense of which Quick, slumping as he is, has received both barrels.

3 near rookie Dman and Scuds playing like he doesn't want an extension does not help. Saying that Quick has to at least stop giving up the odd softy. Love the guy but Bernier has played better lately. Quick will rebound. Too much talent not to.

I'll judge Quick when he's behind the same D as last year (or as close as possible). Greene+Mitchell >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ellerby+Drewiske+Muzzin, not to mention some others, like Scuds and Drew, are playing more minutes than they did last year and should be playing.

What's bothering me the most is our shots against are way, way down these days, but we're still allowing plenty of Grade-Pejorative Slur chances on our goaltenders, which is turning their save percentage into mush. Things need to tighten up in front of the net NOW.

Quick looks human again, and Bernier can't handle traffic. Our defenders need to make things simple for them again.
