Post-Game Talk: Oilers Win Series in Gentlemen's sweep 4-2

Arvidsson crosscheck. Podkolzon with no stick tackles Kempe with full arms wrapped around his body. Nurse chops a King behind the net.

Refs suck both ways. The conspiracy stuff is laughable
On this I agree. Officials were missing stuff all over. A two hand crosscheck by Arvid right to the face, 4 officials on the ice and somehow no one see's it. It was a physical series and officials were letting a lot go.

People bring up the running into the goalie thing but if paying attention Pickard was out or on edge of crease when ran. Those plays tend to be allowed. Kuemper was ran by Arvid and head shot right deep in his crease. Arvid has basically no conception of where he is on that play. Thats a penalty every time, even playoffs. You can't smoke a goalie who's right in his crease. You'd have no goalies left if that was allowed as a tactic, lol

Is it possible to sign the best empty net scorer available out of europe for the Vegas series?
We already have Connor Brown.

But seriously, why don't we put on depth guys during the empty nets? Leave McDrai on the bench and run something like Brown-Janmark-RNH.

I was thinks that last night during the game. It is confusing because a goalie that plays the puck can’t be touched before or after playing the puck.

It was telling that the referee blew the whistle quickly when Klingberg covered the puck. He was thinking oh shit, don’t want to screw the Oilers but doesn’t want to call a penalty.

I don't get why he got flak in the first place, he actually had a decent regular season now bookended by two excellent playoffs. Of the bottom 6 guys, he's the one I hope stays the most. It'll be a pay raise, but I could live with something like 2 years $4m maybe a bit more. The guy brings it in the big games and isn't that old.
You always liked him though. Given his first season here it was sure hard for me to warm to him. What I don't absolve though is players that do far less in reg season saving it for playoffs. This applies to all the players doing that whether it be Janmark, Henrique, Brown, etc. Just to cite the team had to pull out Draisaitl out of injury, and McD out of injury just to ensure some crucial wins especially with Drai playing the Calgary game which was more important than seemingly realized. The Oilers didn't have a wide margin for making playoffs,

Myself I look at games where Nuge or Connor Brown or whoever are lighting it up and wonder why that kind of game can't be occurring more commonly.

The last thing in this is whether it be 90's or now Its not my preference to be a Dallas Stars old roster. I didn't like such a concept then and I have trouble with it now. The Oilers roster is very much loaded up with older players like the mid to late 90's Dallas Stars roster was. I very much appreciate the energy of young players in a lineup and we get precious little of that in this roster.

Maybe this team even finds a way to keep going. But I donno, McD and Drai have been heavily taxed and used just to get to this point, with a lot of the roster contributing very little most of the year. Then the goaltending. While I wanted Picks in net we had the fortune of seeing good Pickard for all 4 games. The worse version of Pickard never showed up. Its the only time here he's had 4 games in a row, and 4 games in a row played well. Usually he's good for a couple games in a row and then gets off his game.

Connor brown outperformed his contract this year.

One of the chief trouble with the NHL, always, is that rules are varied things. Theres written rules then theres applied rules. Regardless of what rulebook states certain things are called and certain things are not commonly called. In my whole lifetime of viewing hockey you can't fly right into the crease and smoke the goalie. If you could like I said there would be no goalies left to play. The very nature of the crease is that a goalie should be protected in that crease. Without which theres no reason to even have the line markings.

YOU CHOSE THE WRONG SIDE FOEGELE.

My biggest issue with the Arvidsson goalie interference wasn’t even the penalty.

It was the fact that kuemper looked shaken up and it was a direct blow to the head, yet wasn’t pulled by the spotter.

I have yet to see another teams player get pulled by the spotter like the oilers seem to get

At this point I'd agree. I wouldn't if you had brought this up say February.

He sure didn't earn first year contract.

We'll see what happens. He's had some puck luck lately and two more ENG. We'll see if he can bring any consistency in production which has never occurred here before. Applies to several other players on the team. Shit is about to get real. We need everybody on board.

Oh yeah. he should have been pulled to be checked for concussion. Officials let him stay on. Not sure what the precedents are for goalies with that. With a skater they probably get pulled for concussion protocol. Also in playoffs not sure its universally enforced.

Its hilarious WRT Oilers and spotters, always on the dot. GTFO the ice RIGHT NOW.

But others, its up to the victim's discretion. Like why was Kuemper able to waive that off?

They're pretty good at coming up short. Like I say Kings a strange club and strange coaching. They actually had a 4th line and that line was looking decent. But the coach was parking them and resulted in team being gassed by game 4. The same dumb coach that called the challenge in game 3.

We complain about coaching a lot on this board but the LA bench management is abysmal.

This was a great game though and both teams gave everything. Good that the team is going to get a bit of rest now.
And playing Kempe on defense? He's a great player but he was totally out of gas by the end. Seems like the Kings played their super hard forechecking game and they either were out of gas or had a mental breakdown in the 3rd period of Game 3....

Someone posted previously that Foegele has lost 4 playoffs in a row to the eventual cup champions and made the ultimate sacrifice for us. So maybe he chose...wisely.
In a humorous vein one could say he's a regular season player that isn't as good at playoff play and so minimizing the latter might make sense.

His production doesn't survive tight marking as well. Some players need more open ice and loose play to get the gravy. Still he was a good player last couple seasons. He's inconsistent like many players. I'd still have him over Arvid running around being an idiot.

I made a joke between games 3 and 4 that Kings adjustments would have to include using technology to Clone KempeX3.

Kempe ran out of gas, Kopitar sure did, even Danault did. Was dumb all day for them to not play their 4th line. But thats what they got as coaching and will probably continue.

Just wait till US clubs players are allowed to waive off penalties. "No sir I didn't do that, I didn't ever do that," standing in front of blood on the ice....

Its the NHL. We know the product by now. The best enforcement is having a guy like Kane. Simply the best.

This is why NHL has always been called wild west and that you need your own henchman. Its important to have them. Remember the Hope era of our players getting run?

Remember the Ducks Oil playoff game where we got dicked?

Ironic Perry plays for us now lol
Canadian teams literally have to beat 2 extra players every time they step on ice against Buttman faves

At least then we had a good club and playoffs. The absolute worst was seeing Eberle, Hall, Gagner, Paajarvi get run repeatedly,. Omark too but I didn't mind that as much....;) Could you imagine that club having to endure playoff hockey?

Did Paajarvi retire? Didn't ever seem fully suited to hockey.

WE sure missed the Kane insurance protection plan this season. Not having that made the season much more perilous for our players. Looks like we got a year or so left on that Kaner protection plan. Don't leave home without it, whatever it costs the peace of mind is worth it. ;

Because McDavid and Draisaitl are absolutely elite at defending the extra attacker. They came off the ice for 30 seconds and got scored on. I don't know the numbers, but it certainly seems like whenever the big guns are out there defending, the chances against go way down.
