Almost winning the cup with these goalies was a miracle or at least almost a miracle.

It wasn't a miracle though. Did the Oilers seem like a cinderella in the playoffs or a team that just got a bunch of lucky breaks along the way or something? They actually lost the finals because they couldn't score.

In any event, what's the solution in net? I don't see any out there. Teams aren't giving away #1 goalies. I guess you can bring in a guy to try somebody "different" but that's just a band aid at best.

But the Debrusk comment was "Skinner had no chance on the goal" Well, technically because he's Skinner, but that should be a routine stop in Junior. He had time to get across. Sorokin would get there 99/100X. On all 3 goals Skinner is beat wide. This isn't even pretending to be an NHL starter.

KK figured out Stecher should draw in on D. Hopefully he figures out Pickard is better. Pickard makes either 1-2 stops that Skinner let in tonight.

No we seemed like the better team with the worse goalie most of the time.

You don’t need a number 1 goalie to get better than 70th in the league goaltending.

I'm not sure it's viable to run Ekholm/Bouchard 25 minutes a night. Bouchard might survive, Ek will not.

Skinners pad positioning is like Freddy Krueger claws to me. I'll have nightmares anyway. Oh we won, Thank god as I said for 4 superstar goals and needing every one. Skinner requiring the whole team to gut out an OT win and only because we have superstars. Otherwise we lose cuz Fred Skinner.

If we got Sorokin this is a shutout.

While i dont think (either) skinner played well, the islanders put up a decent effort with a bunch of top players missing to injury. Not sure what the oilers are yet, they can look so dominant but still struggle to score and have the worst goaltending and PK'ing in the league.

Seriously I would trust David Riitich in net more than Skinner at this point. This dude doesn't have it and his awful movement in net is not improving at all. Like did this guy even work on anything this summer?

If a truly good goaltender is available out there, the deadline money might be better allocated in that direction when the trade deadline rolls around though.

Even a high end backup would be better than what we have

But he at least has mobility that approaches normal for an NHL goalie. Its no accident teams try to work passes across all the time. The one scouting report on Skinner is make him move. Anytime our opponents are looking to move the puck across. On the first goal its an obvious shooting position, but the better play is making Skinner move...he doesn't get there. he doesn't get there 3X. A few more on the posts and botched Islanders plays. This is Skinner against the hapless Islanders without Barzel and some top players.

I agree, meant more that it's fine at this time. I'd rather wait until closer to the TDL to get the D upgrade as I think we could still see some growth with Emberson.

That said, the dollars would be better spent on goaltending. Even if Skinner gets better (I'm sure he will), it's difficult to trust the guy to be a Cup quality tender anymore
