Oilers vs Kings part IV

If the Kings lose to McDavid and Draisaitl for the 4th year in a row those two should get an ownership stake. If the Kings lose to McDavid and Draisaitl for the 4th year in a row I'll curse them and their children and their children's children with powerful prairie gypsy magic.

Stay out of the penalty box and score 3 goals a game. You're not putting a man on the moon.

I know oilers fans like to think that Draisaitl for some reason should command similar respect but I just can’t see it. McDavid can get an entire squad on the ice scrambling to stop him. McDavids ability to control the game terrifies me. Draisaitl is usually just doing nothing near the face off dot.

Excluding his rookie season, when he was clearly not ready and sent back down to the WHL after 37 games....

Draisaitl has 60 points in 26 games without McDavid. That includes 15 points in 8 games without McDavid this year.

I'd say >2 points per game is ok production no?

Looks almost certain we will have a Kings vs oilers 4th straight year 1st round matchup. Curious if this bores Oilers fans but hope for it because they like the matchup? Kings fans, bored with this and hope for anything else or do you WANT it and to slay the dragon? Neutral fans, guessing you will be bored by this series or no?

I dunno, it's kinda a lose-lose situation for Oiler fans.

1) I'd like to see the Kings play someone else so that they would get the respect they deserve. They have been hard-fought series every year.
2) I do worry they eventually beat us, they are strong defensively and have good scoring depth.

Its really gonna come down to 2 things...
1) Is Leon going to be healthy / able to play at a high level
2) Do the Kings commit 3 penalties a game and lose the special teams battle?

The thing is…when the Kings win against the Oilers in the playoffs, it’s usually in overtime or a one goal nail biter in regulation. When the Oilers win, it’s 6-0 or 8-2. Last year’s series wasn’t even close no matter what Luc Robitaille tries to sell us and the cores of the teams haven’t changed. The only chance I give the Kings is if McDrai are hurt because they cannot stop them.

they haven't looked like themselves all year

Draisaitl, Nurse Perry and Pickard are probably the only 4 players on the entire roster who have maintained or got better than last year. Almost everyone else has fallen off a cliff
Also, oilers right now have draisaitl mcdavid and ekholm- basically their 3 best players- out with injury. Even if all 3 return for playoffs- they probably aren't 100%

LA Kings

21/22.....99pts 2.87 gf/2,83 ga pp 16.1%, pk 76.7%
22/23....104pts 3.34gf/3.10 ga pp 25.3% pk 75.8 %
23/24....99 pts 3.1 gf/2.56 ga pp22.6% pk 84.6 %
24/25....93 pts (102 pace) 2.95 gf/2.49 ga pp 16.6% pk 81.7%

Explain to me how the Kings are best they've been out of the 4 years?

-Will they even hit 99 pts...they place EDM twice. Current pace will be behind the 23 team.
-They have the 2 worst goals per game out of the 4 this year but best goals against.
-Their powerplay is 3rd out of 4, could drop.5 % easily to be the worst.
-Their PK is 2nd.

Their strong suit is still their defense, which doesn't work against the Oilers. Kuempers save %tage against the Oilers in his last 4 games....967, .889, 811 and .808. GA......1.04, 2.85, 7.02 and 5.26

The Oilers have a game plan against the Kings, they're the same team they've been the last 3 series and know exactly how to beat them. The Kings have no answer. They know what they want to do, they just can't.

i don't think raw points give you a sense of identity at all

I do agree that the Oilers have a Kings game plan and that the Kings turn into a puddle against them

Even if the end result is the same, it appears the Kings have moved on from hard matching Kopitar and Draisatil and McDavid and Danault all game and are instead trying to push Byfield--who is the only King who can physically match them--head ot head instead

The Kings top to bottom are the best team they've had in 4 years--the d core as a whole is far less 30 minutes of doughty and more 15-25 minutes of everyone and the forward lines, given health, are deadly top to bottom. provided they're back, part of the reason the Kings were nigh unstoppable for a bit were that the 4th line of Turcotte-Danault-Helenius was totally tilting the ice to set everyone else up and suddenly the best line was Fiala-Byfield-Laferriere which means Kopitar-Kuzmenko-Kempe and Danault-Moore-Foegele were just running everyone over

I still think the Kings biggest weakness is teams with superstars--particularly Oilers and Colorado (and TBL?)--but they're definitely the 'best' version of the last 4 years. I don't know if that's enough for the matchup, but that's the 'why' that you're questioning.

This yrs playoffs are the best chance they've had to get out of the first round in ten yrs. The big question imo is thier power play which is better called a powerLESS play.
