It always takes the Flames 2 months to get going, it will be a disaster this season.

The last two meetings to me showed a changing of the guard. We no longer have any reason to be scared of Calgary, they might have a softer team than ours.

The Flames (especially Iginla) are notorious slow starters. Whereas in past seasons they have a mid-season surge and slot into the 9 spot, they can't afford to do that this year.

With the Oilers most of the really important players on the roster have been busy elsewhere.

With the Flames I'm not sure if Iginla or Kipprusoff or any of their older guys were playing overseas.

Maybe some of us are getting ahead of ourselves, but the Flames didn't really get that much better in the off-season and their best players are reaching their twilight.

iginla hasnt been playing for sure, i know because i was on the ice with him at COP in calgary a few weeks ago, just playing some shinny

Well i'm obviously going to say oilers, this is probably a bit biased though your asking an oilers board filled with hardcore oilers fans, but i really do believe the Oilers finish above of the Lames
Calgary might actually finish last in NW

A team of rookies and greenhorns is going to beat a team of veterans?

Not likely.

Flames start slow, finish last in the league.

Oilers finish in 17th place.

Oilers win the draft lottery.

MacKinnon's gonna be a bust.

Yeah, I went there.

Which is why the Oilers need to draft Seth Jones when we win the lottery.

Perfect rebuild:

4 first overall picks
Left Winger-Taylor Hall
Centre-Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Right winger-Nail Yakupov
Defenseman-Seth Jones

Any team that misses the playoffs this year is going to get a solid prospect... there are definitely at least 15 really good looking draft prospects out there so if Calgary misses they're going to get a nice piece for the prospect cupboard.

Maybe no Jankowski but a good prospect none the less.

TBH... with Jankowski, they've won this bet already.

It's up to Kiprusoff, as I imagine they'll be starting him literally every game.

I'll go with Calgary until they show they aren't a borderline playoff team. The Oilers are a last place quality team 3 years running. They've added two rookies. They aren't going to be that much better.

But looking at Calgary's roster I just see nothing going for them. Their eternal tactic of riding Iggy + Kipper to the playoffs hasn't worked for years, and their supporting cast is awful.

I think Edmonton will score. They will at the very least have a deadly power play. I can see Dubnyk + Smid/Petry/Whitney/Schultz/Schultz putting together a decent defensive core. Good enough to put them at least above the Flames, if things go relatively well. Could be good enough to sneak into the playoffs.

It hasn't worked for them for years... but they are consistently better than we are. Until that changes, or until the Oilers make significant improvements (two rookies, no matter how promising don't count) I will continue to think Calgary will be the better team.

I'm at the stage that the Oilers are going to need to prove they can be better before I actually believe they will be. They have been too awful for too long for me to think otherwise.

Its like you guys can read the minds of the morons at calgarypuke.com

What's funny is THEY think hf lacks credibility. As bad as hf can be sometimes it's still >>>>>>>>> C(ess)P(ool).

This is the year the Oilers finally reclaim their rightful place as Alberta's best team (although that's not saying a lot). Though I do hope the Flames finish well outside the top eight in the draft.
