The Oiler's powerplay decline has been pretty glaring this year, and a lot of it has to do with Mcdavid being no where near his dominant form of year's past. An unappreciated aspect of it's decline is that teams have been focused on the unit's weak link, you can see them converging on RNH before he even gets the puck now since they know he's slow at making plays and coughs up the puck at the slightest hint of pressure. It's badly disrupting the rest of the unit and the Oiler's coaching staff seems unwilling(or incapable) of changing things up to fix the issue.

Flames with 3 powerplays in the first against the leafs.

Must be nice.

You’re aware they’re at like 30% after the cold start right?

Our bottom six forwards all play like morons. They must all think they're McDavid with this overpassing bs

Our bottom 6 is really bizarre. Nobody is scoring (outside of Perry), but also nobody is a black hole.

I see, like you do, that a lot of their offensive possessions go by the boards because of overpassing. If they'd simplify even 25% they'd be that much more effective.

They're too busy trying to defend in the offensive zone 🤣

Mcdavid/Drai tend to get put together for extended periods of time like this when one or both players aren't 100%, the coach would probably prefer to have them separated.
I'm not sure about that, he has fallen into the same trap every coach has. It seems like a cheat code until it isn't.

It would be a hell of alot easier to insulate 1 of them with offensive draws and stuff like that then to let them play like defense is optional.
