Seravalli on Oilersnations Everyday expressed that the Oilers tried to acquire DOC last week. It obviously failed and DOC went to Vancouver. Seravalli says that the Oilers are now looking at a backup play but for a similar type of player. A big ,fast forward that can forecheck. Seravalli says they are still trying to replace Holloway from the day they lost him.

Which players might the Oilers be targeting now that fits the DOC mould?

O’Connor went with Pettersson foe the rangers 2025 first (if outside the top 13), plus the Canucks 3rd round pick from the 24 draft, winger in Fernstrom, plus Heinen (who has 1 more year left on his deal) returning to Pitt so they were familiar with him and a dump of Desjarais.

Assume Pettersson is the main piece for that first rounder then Edm didn’t part with a prospect around the caliber of Fernstrom.

I mean if Edm really wanted him that does t seem like too high a price to pay.

I don't think DOC is going to be a difference maker for anyone, personally. Not like Edmonton cup hopes are changed in anyway. DOC was a speedy forechecker who PK'ed well but the pedestrian level of production made it difficult to have any positive feelings towards keeping him.

It's really not difficult to find a Drew O'Connor type of player. He's really not anything special.

Tanev in Seattle sticks out as an obvious backup plan. Honestly I think Tanev is better than O'Connor.

While both is fast and can be tenacious at forechecking,

Tanev is barely 6ft tall while DOC is 6'4.

Size matters especially in playoffs, more specifically wing span that can disrupt plays.

Edmonton might not see Tanev and DOC in a similar scope.

Someone like Jordan Greenway is who i'd say is similar to DOC.

He might not be the ''big'' center Seravalli is mentioning, but Jake Evans somehow fits that bill.

I'm sure he'd be of great use in EDM, very reliable player that will likely have a reasonable cost to acquire. Is also an absolute menace on the PK.

Probably should have matched on Holloway if they knew they were going to need that style of player. Now he's looking like a steal at 2.4 million and will probably get over 7 on his next contract.
This..100%. It was a poor decision made by the Oilers that is now going to cost them more in assets than the 2.4 million that would have easily been covered by the rising cap. Young middle 6 forwards under long-term/reasonable $ contracts are the Holy Grail of contending teams. Yet Bowman/Jackson really look bad for not matching. Broberg would have been understandable to let go, even though they probably shouldn't have for the same reason of now it will cost you more ($/assets) for the same kind of player going forward. But the Holloway one is going to hurt in the meantime, more, because of the lack of scoring depth on the Oilers.

I guess Greenway would be the guy they would look at as someone who has size and is a decent enough skater. Good PKer, will play a bit of a physical game more as a bulldozer than as a punishing hitter... expiring contract.

Frank was saying Edmonton feels like they are missing that heat seeking missile w size, forechecker that Holloway brought.

Maybe Kane can regain himself after surgery?

I've watched O'Connor for his entire NHL career and saw multiple years of Tanev between both Pittsburgh and Seattle. Tanev brings everything that O'Connor brings. O'Connor doesn't play like his 6'3" size indicates.

The thing that O'Connor was supposed to bring that Tanev didn't bring was skill, especially as a net front guy. That didn't really ever develop, though.

Evans is another good fit there.

Don't think Jake Evans is going anywhere, IMO. I think the Habs/Evans will easily get an extension done, now that the Cap is going where it is.

Oh I'd be absolutely fine with the Habs keeping Evans, but should he be available at the deadline I think EDM should inquire, I feel like he's the exact type of player they'd need for depth during the playoffs.

For sure. I just don't think Montreal wants to lose him. He's a perfect fit for their team over the next 5+ years.

They mentioned during the game that armia could be a fit in Edmonton
I can’t imagine the cost to be too high to acquire
I really think he’d be money on the bottom 6 for the oilers

Armia would be a good fit as well, he's at his best during important games, however, I was under the impression that the Oilers were looking for a center more than they were looking for a winger.

I'm sure there's a deal to be made between those 2 teams where everyone will like what they got in return.
