I’d target Rasmus Andersson - however unlikely the Flames are to do business with us. I’d overpay if that’s what it takes.

To CGY: 2026 1st, 2025 2nd (STL), Akey, Savoie

To ANH: 2025 3rd (STL)

To EDM: Andersson 75% retained
"Thanks for the offer Oilers, now let me take this to the next highest bidder and see what I can do with it" - Flames Management

Dealing with and offering on Flames assets is a waste of time and only helps their rebuild.

With H. Lindholm out injury and still no time table for his return the Bruins are very unlikely to trade a defensman, especially Carlo, unless they are significantly improved by the return.
The Bruins team is playing better, and so is Carlo, Bruins management will probably wait this out.
Besides, any such trade, should it ever happen, would most likely occur during the off-season and the return would definitely be different.

Hm maybe. I can’t speak to how the Boston management team operates. But I’ve always viewed them as a team that always wants to win a Championship though, you know has their sights set higher than first round playoffs revenue. And I always felt revenue wise they’d be fine either way, as an Original 6 team they aren’t struggling financially and probably has a pretty big war chest saved up.

Curious, what would be the ideal top 6 winger that you would want and think could shake loose for Carlo? Is there one?

I got nothing. Hockey trades are hard. The team really needs a left winger. Geekie is a 3RW playing 1LW and Marchand is 437 years old. And it’s very possible they don’t want to pay Frederic what he can get out in the market. Poitras and Lysell are both right shots and while Merkulov is PPG in the AHL, he is also 24 and hasn’t been able to stick which screams AHL all star career.

Thanks for the feedback. Okay LWer. Top 6. I assume outside of Marchand and Pasta you don’t have much play drivers, more forwards of the complimentary type. JSkinner in my mind does make some sense and I could see him popping off offensively in Boston. 2 way play iffy but lately I’ve been surprised to see how hard he back checks.

I feel like I'm having Deja Vu habs have a physical 4/5 dman with playoff experience and habs fans are saying he'll go for a 1st or 2nd and other are saying they don't think he will.

Oilers do not do the Boston deal. Not sure how montreal fans feel about their trade

I'd want atleast a 2nd and it would be closer to the deadline. Habs are trying to be better but not good this year hence the Carrier acquisition. Think pick I'm th 8-12 range instead of 4-7.

I think that the Carrier trade is lining up a Matthieson deal

If BOS is out of playoffs contention by deadline, one of Arvidsson/J.Skinner/Kane plus a prospect like Max Wanner and/or a 2nd should be enough to fetch Carlo IMO.

There is no need for EDM to go after Savard if they are getting Carlo. There is certainly no need to trade Bouchard if the plan is to contend. Despite his warts he gets the job done offensively
No way the Bruins will be in a sell mode. East is wide open and the Bruins are just mending into form. I can see Sweeney doing his usual and giving up what he can at or near the deadline.

I see him moving a prospect or two and maybe even this years first for the right piece. If Swayman gets his shit together and Sweeney adds a legit top 6 forward, the B’s might actually get beyond the second round this season.

Edit: And that top 6 forward isn’t Jeff Skinner

Have you seen him play this year ( or any of the past 3 really )? Crispy . Tanev went for a second last year and is way way better . Think 3 rd is the top return

A right side of Carlo/Savard/Emberson would result in the puck being in Edmonton’s zone about 70% of the time, and also result in the puck being diced into fine little cubes like a f***ing Slap Chop was taken to it. Savard is garbage and Carlo hasn’t been much better this year. Bouchard is worth more than every piece Edmonton is getting back, combined.

Awful trades, horrendous targets, miserable value. Hardest of passes.

What is the evidence that the Oilers defense is broken??? Take out the first three games and since then the Oilers have the 6th best GA/Gm at 2.66 with LA and Washington tied for first at 2.60.

The Oilers two pairs::

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Kulak

are statistically amongst the very best in the league.

maybe, but Mattheson is not a UFA so Hughes is in no hurry
Matheson is apparently the actual Montreal D Edmonton has poked around on. I don’t like him much either, but I’d give up two firsts for Matheson before I gave up a 2nd for Savard. Dude is so cooked he should be on the table for Christmas dinner.

None, people assume it is from the 2010 decade of darkness.

Edmonton defense is in every top five metric in the league for the last 3-4 years.

We would like a better goalie and maybe a better winger.
definitely need another winger isnt kasperi kapanen 2RW right now? thats gross

2 trades for the Oilers to fix their Defense

Trade #1;
Oilers; Carlo, Frederic
Bruins; Bouchard, J. Skinner

Trade #2;
Oilers; Savard (50% retained)
Canadiens: Stecher, 2026 3rd
The stupidity of some Oiler fans in thinking trading an offensive dynamo from the backend at age 25 for 2 perennial #4 pluggers will Fix our goaltending woes.

When we claimed Kap all of Hyman, Arvidsson, and Kane were out hurt.

The reason he’s stayed there now that we’ve gotten a couple guys back is he’s playing pretty well and gelling with Draisaitl.

We don’t expect it to last, but he’s been fine in that spot so far.

Lol Matheson would be a great pick up for the oilers. Savard is definitely declining. Not sure if Hughes even moves him if return is mediocre. Habs may sign him for one year imo, then he can join coaching staff

Oilers defence doesn't need to be fixed. It needs one more D to bolster it, but its still a good defensive group especially when you factor in the forward group's 2-way play.
