2 trades for the Oilers to fix their Defense

Trade #1;
Oilers; Carlo, Frederic
Bruins; Bouchard, J. Skinner

Trade #2;
Oilers; Savard (50% retained)
Canadiens: Stecher, 2026 3rd
Canadiens will be looking for at least a 2nd for Savard @50%… and will get it.

I doubt the Bruins have any interest in either player. Bouchard doesn’t seem like a Bruins type Dman… especially with his contract status.

I feel like the Bruins would want actual defense and not willing to take teh anchor of Skinner (if he'd waive).

Byram seems like the obvious target. Someone is going to snipe him cheap from teh Sabres.

Trading Bouchard to improve the Oiler's D? Serious question, any Oilers poster think trading Bouch is the key to improving us this season?

Both trades are bad, totally legitimate Oilers fan “Oil10”.

The Oilers defence also doesn’t need fixing. They were among the best defensive teams last year and they remain one this year.

The Oilers D could use a Right Side Upgrade though. Going Bouchard to Carlo is a significant downgrade. Going Stecher to Savard I would argue is probably a downgrade too, or at best lateral.

Not that I want to trade JSkinner, but a 1 year contract at $3M isn’t really an anchor. And Boston really could use the help in Top 6 production.

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
The Oilers aren't trading Bouchard whatsoever, especially for Carlo. Good grief. You must be a Kris Russell stan.
Then again, your post history speaks volume.

You wanted to trade Bouchard for Savard, Xhekaj +. WTF?

Here’s the real trade the Oilers need to do:

1st + 4th for Carlo (50% retained)

And that’s probably being generous for how Carlo has played this year.

Skinner can't play enough of a two way game for Buffalo or EDM, I highly doubt he finds a home in Boston.

Bouchard is, of course, interesting, but I don't think the Bruins cap structure could be even more money into the D group when they have one of the more expensive groups going already.

Sure, but why would Boston do that?

If the Bruins miss the playoffs and Carlo continues to regress, it might make sense to sell him off while he still has name value and to help a retool.

The Habs are looking for younger players and have plenty of picks. I don't see the Oilers giving up a young player like O'Reilly. There may not be a match.

Pasta is turning 29 this year. Marchand is going to age out any second. Both Lindholm's are 30. Zacha is 27. Zadorov 29. Almost the whole darn team is between 26 and 30. They ain't trading Carlo (with multiyear retention!). If Carlo is moved, it would be for a top six forward that can help today and right now. The kinds of deals you are proposing them to make are 2-3 years away.

Oilers wouldn’t so don’t worry bout it.

Matheson we can have a conversation about though.

We absolutely cannot have a conversation about Matheson. Where and how does he fit in to the Oilers as an LD? He'd get bottom pairing minutes and no power play time, all for the sweet sweet price of almost $5M this season and next. Considering how he'd be deployed, Kulak is a better fit for third pairing LD position for the Oilers than Matheson ever would be.

Well if you feel the window is open for this year and next then keep Carlo. And if you trust that he’s the same player he was last year. Completely understandable. I heard he might be considered to be on the block though. If the Bs fall out of the race, he’d be among your most moveable pieces.

Matheson plays RD for Montreal. We would be paying for his performance as a RD (admittedly mediocre), and slotting him in on the Right Side.

I don’t think they will. Savard is not good.
He stinks . They’ll be lucky to get more than a 3 rd for him . Hab fans were adamant he would be getting a 1 st this past summer . That was a pipe dream then ; he’s played even worse since . Guy is cooked

I didn't know he's been playing RD, but I don't believe he's the type of RD we need to target. Almost half of his points come from the PP and he won't get any time here and he can't really defend. If we were looking for a somewhat offensively gifted RD, we should have just called Schultz before he retired and gotten him for a lot cheaper than what Habs (fans) want for Matheson and how much he makes.
