If they can somehow get here without using Jeff Skinner they will be able to go on a run. Drai Needs a legit winger, and I think Arvy will be "good enough" if he's on a strong line that can carry him.

- Nuge Mcdavid Hyman showed some good signs last night and maybe with a deeper line up behind them they will do ok.
- Jeff Skinner wasn't good enough to be Drai's winger last night. He's too slow and we know Bob won't play him.
- Can Savoie play 3C? Maybe? Probably not. Is he ready to be Drai winger in the playoffs? Probably not.

Get a f***ing goalie. Force Skinner to rely on his stupid Carolina Closets commercials for his income, cause he will not survive on any other team in the Bigs anyways.

It’s nearly impossible to do all that, Plus that level of team change puts you into training camp mode, just as you are pushing to play offs. I’m not sure that’s a positive.
Realistically, I think they need to upgrade goalie and the top 4 D, which would then push the other D down into spots that are more realistic. Up front, you have to hope/have faith that 97, RNH, Jeff Skinner, and the depth forwards start making things happen again. If you could pull off a “hockey trade”, I’d move RNH for the right player, but that’s a tough ask in mid season. Let’s also hope Kane can step in and be a middle six level player, but whoa, he’s been away for 8 months, so that’s a step too.

Jeff Skinner is cooked. We need to come to that realization. Or at least he's not worthy of a top 6 spot.
This team needs a fast top 6 winger badly. IMO the number 1 need. We are way too slow after losing Holloway, Mcleod and Foegele. Move Podkolzin down to beef up the bottom 6.
I want to believe the organization knows this and we will be adding a fast top 6 winger.
You’ll be very disappointed when all Bowman does is step in front of the podium to declare Evander Kane is our TDL acquisition along with the bag of used pucks we got for a 2nd rounder.

I'm wondering if the Oilers brass hasn't been saying anything about Skinner/goalies since they think it will do more harm than good to call him out. Like you can call out a skater who isn't trying hard enough, but for goalies the meta is to just wait and watch until you eventually replace them.
Honestly, I think they should sell. This team isn’t nowhere near good enough to make a serious push in the playoffs. And they have too many holes to fill. Sell what you can for what you can and retool in the off season.

I doubt they ever signal to the team that the season is lost, with 97 and 29 on the roster. Especially not when 97 is about to go FA at season’s end.
What a kick in the nuts to him that would be.
Missing the playoffs would mean Mcdavid is likely going to walk especially if Marner decides to test the market

They can't sell this year. Have to extend McDavid.
People are rightfully upset about the rough couple weeks here but the Oilers are a capable goaltender away from having as good a shot as anyone.

It could happen, but they've been on a decline since the end of January and this road trip is only reinforcing that they're just not good enough against top teams. This hasn't been a case where we've been outplaying teams and just not getting the breaks. We're getting thoroughly outworked and outplayed. If the team's waiting for Skinner to bail them out well that's just not a very good strategy.
I think the needs of the team are obvious.
1. Veteran Goaltender (John Gibson?)
2. Stabilizing Defenseman (Jamie Oleksiak?)
3. Physical Energy Forward (Trent Frederic?)
4. Physical Scoring Forward (Alex Tuch?)
The guys didn't just forget to play hockey. They need to clean up their turnovers and know that every chance against isn't going back in the net.

John Klingberg (Basically our worst dman - 46.27 CF%, 40.01 xGF%, 40.57 SCF%, 37.50 HDCF%)
Victor Arvidsson (Has good fancy numbers but has underperformed at 4M. Leads the league in falls / 60.)
Kasperi Kapanen (He's been on the ice for 17 GF and 26 GA 5v5. Has continued to get worse since we've picked him up).
Mattias Janmark (He's been on the ice for 18 GF and 27 GA 5v5. Basically our worst forward 45.75 CF%, 44.55 xGF%, 47.06 SCF%, 47.55 HDCF%)
I think that's the right order. If Kane comes back, the team might be able to get away without #4 this year but the other 3 need to be addressed by next week. That's 3 trades which should be doable.
