Dumb idea, Bouchard is excellent and should improve further in his own end as he matures.

I'd look to sell high on Kane (when healthy), Nuge and/or Hyman before they decline further to fix the D, not move a quality asset who should get better, and it won't be long before Savoie and O'Reilly are knocking at the door to take on those roles.

Bouchard is excellent but isn't worth 10M per that he will be looking for.
Not a trade away option because we got nothing at RD.

So you're just offering futures for Andersson...

Okay
Are you suggesting that the price for taking Andersson is also taking Huberdeau? I mean, I can see why the Flames would want to do that, but be realistic. The teams that are going to be most interested in Andersson are the ones who are contending, or close to it. Those teams don't have the cap space to take on a bum contract like Huberdeau's.

You guys are rebuilding. The Flames have overachieved so far this year, and that's commendable, but all it has probably done is give them lower draft lottery odds.

Your GM will want futures for Andersson. If he was looking for a veteran, he'd just keep Andersson. Everyone who wants him will offer futures for Andersson. This is a "veteran for futures" scenario if there ever was one.

I meant future considerations so nothing. Just like Nurse and Bouchard would cancel out. But ya apparently I mistyped haha.

Oilers can't match 10 million. It's only a 1,2,3.
The Oilers would definitely match $10M. They probably are looking at $8.5-9.5 as it is. Right now they have about $16M in cap space with 15 players signed. That leaves them about $6M to sign 4-5 guys. Three of those players are probably close to league minimum. Leaving them with about $4M to sign one or two more. Now they probably want to address the second pairing RHD which may mean trading one or both of Kane and Kulak to free up the money depending on how big the contract.

All that said I'd actually be somewhat surprised if he is not signed well before the free agency period. Knowing what his deal will be is crucial for planning next year.

Edit...

HF value Bouchard just fine. Bouchard valuing Bouchard is the biggest issue here. Wanting 11M+ a year because he’s getting the puck to McDavid or Draisaitl before they make insane plays is a joke and the rest of the league is able to see through it.

Exactly this

You guys are just lazy. It doesn't take long to look this stuff up.

Playing WITHOUT either McD or Drai on the ice, over the past two seasons, these are Bouchard's 5v5 numbers:

GF = 53%
xGF = 55%
SCF = 57%
HDCF = 57%

The guy just tilts the ice no matter who he is playing with.

By comparison, here is Makar playing without MacK or Rantanen
GF = 43%
xGF = 49
SCF = 51%
HDCF = 50%

Huh, those are better numbers than I would've thought. Thanks for this, Buck.

Wow those are insane expected stats! Sign him to his 11M ask right away before he ends up in the 14-25M range.

That's not even a small sample size on Bouchards part, he's played almost the same time without McD/Drai than he's played with them in any combination.

I am not a big fan of "expected" stats either.

That's why I posted ONE expected stat and THREE actual on-ice performance stats. You know, the ones that count ACTUAL goals and ACTUAL shots and ACTUAL shots from high-danger positions. These are real numbers, not abstractions.

And you resorted to sarcasm because you literally have ZERO argument. Both the expected and the actual numbers support the fact that you were talking out of your backside and can't find any support for your "opinion" since there isn't any.

Oilers NEED to fix the D-core and they should trade Bouchard while his value is high.

Oilers don't need the offensive D-man, they need more shut-down Defensemen. Oilers have enough fire power up front that they can trade Bouchard.

I would also love to trade Nurse, but his cap is what will keep him in Edmonton. So the Oilers need to trade Bouchard so they don't make the same mistake they did signing Nurse to the terrible contract.

So, my question is, What top Shut-down D-man can the Oilers get??
(of course other assets would be included)
I'm not what you'd call an Oilers supporter. I'm pretty much the opposite of that.

And the dumbest thing the Oilers could do is trade Bouchard. That guy is a great player. You are nuts if you want to trade your best defender and best by a country mile. This trade will not make the Oilers better. It will make them worse.

NHL teams do not trade 25 year old 6'3 RHD that have proven to be an exceptional PP QB. The idea is so bonkers.
