Shoot me directly in my f***ing face. Empty the goddamn clip  Savard gets curbstomped on a nightly basis and Matheson is a lefty that would be playing third pairing. Please for the love of Christ, Edmonton, don't remotely consider anything like this.
It's really hard to take you serious when you ignore the context literally before and after your bolded remarks.

Context be damned, it's a terrible idea. You're advocating trading in a $20 for a couple of fives. It's the exact kind of shortsighted panic move that would set the franchise further behind.

In fairness, it's what Bowman's good at.

I would rather punt on the season and retool on the fly if McDavid is out for a serious length of time than trade Bouchard in the manner you're suggesting.

I think Bouchard is somewhat overrated by Oiler fans especially defensively, he is not great, but It would have to be a good return for him. He is elite offensively and does much more good then bad. He has also proven to be a fairly clutch player at times and has been excellent offensively in the playoffs. I cannot really see a return that would make sense to trade him.

You have proven my point with that statement sir, but thanks. Bouchard is far more than just the guy on the blueline when McDavid and Drai are on the ice.
He is. He’s just not the 11M guy he think he is. This guy would be a 50-55 points on about 95% of teams in the league.

This guy should be a 7.5M - 8M player but because he inflated his (own perceived) value, he’s asking to be paid like a superstar/near generational talent and because of that, it makes him un-attractive to other teams and a head case for Edmonton.

Well first of all, he's in negotiations. We don't know what he "thinks he is", but we know that with his production, of course he should be starting high with negotiating. I think all of this talk about what he wants to be paid is completely irrelevant, because we have no idea where negotiations will go from here, and this is what pro athletes do literally every time there is a negotiation. You are over-valuing his negotiating tactics.

amazing to me how nobody on this board seems to understand how negotiations work. You start high. The other guy starts low. You meet somewhere in the middle.

To me this will mean the Oilers will start around 6.5-7, Bouchard's camp starts at 11, they meet anywhere from 8.5 to 9.5.

I don't think Oiler fans overrate Bouchard defensively. :)

As an offensive defenseman he is one of the best in the league. Agree on that.

I am going to guess there is zero chance he comes in below Nurse

Yes, Bouchard is a great Offensive D-man but that isn't what the Oilers need. They need Shut-down D-men.

Regarding the PP, any D-man can take his place. Get the puck to the forwards and your points go up. Does he have a killer shot, Yes. But his terrible defensive play out weighs the good.

Oilers need strong Defensive D-men. They have enough fire power up front to score goals. Get D-men who can stop the grade A chances that are being presented.

I like the one reply that Montreal could be a trading partner.
Maybe Oilers get Savard, Xhekaj +

Oilers would lose that trade if they traded Nurse, let alone Bouchard.

interestingly, if you go by his analytics, he's been much stronger defensively than offensively this year.

trading Bouchard for a declining 4/5 in Savard and a tough but limited 6/7 in Xhekaj would be worse than anything Chiarelli ever did to this franchise.

Honestly I'd trade picks at the TDL for solid defensive defensemen

The Oilers are supposed to go for the Cup, they ain't supposed to stack up picks
Stacking Up picks are what rebuilding team Do. Oilers know it, they did it for a f***ing decade, but now is the time to go balls to the walls and try to win it all. f*** them late ass picks anyway

Use the picks to get assets to actually Do something

Oilers will have a pool of 16 teams ready to send them players for their 1st. Shop those players at this moment.

Oilers NEED to fix the D-core and they should trade Bouchard while his value is high.

Oilers don't need the offensive D-man, they need more shut-down Defensemen. Oilers have enough fire power up front that they can trade Bouchard.

I would also love to trade Nurse, but his cap is what will keep him in Edmonton. So the Oilers need to trade Bouchard so they don't make the same mistake they did signing Nurse to the terrible contract.

So, my question is, What top Shut-down D-man can the Oilers get??
(of course other assets would be included)
The Oilers can still get a top 4 d-man with some creativity, we need Bouchard and his point production so he’s going nowhere! Some fans don’t like him now, just wait until he signs long term for $8 mill/per!!:laugh::laugh:

What they might be able to do is trade Bouchard for two dmen by weaponizing their cap space a bit. If you can find a middling team with two dmen in the $3-5mil range, offer a team Bouchard for both. They are a little older than what is realistic but something like Bouchard for Savard+Matheson. You'd likely have to find one of them that are mid-20s like Bouchard.

The Edmonton roster is just so odd to me right now. It really lacks young players, there's few prospects, and they don't have any roster players that return value that they can afford to part with (with the minor exception being RNH). Unless they want to start shelling out 1st round picks which is highly reasonable given the situation. Penguins would likely send you Pettersson for a 2026 1st and a 25 3rd.
Don't worry, there's a light at the end of the tunnel :

The key to fixing the Oiler's D and D-related cap is getting rid of Nurse while keeping Ekholm and Bouchard (or another high end powerplay D to replace Bouchard). Actually accomplishing that will be very difficult, though.

Is he overpaid? Yes. Is he completely 9 million dollars wasted? No.

He's a 6 to 7 million dollar defensemen overpaid because he lost his PP job and he signed 2 bridge deals and going to UFA to get paid.

Using hockeystatcards
The game against Columbus he was the 4th best skater against them.

Nurse is not the reason Oilers are not doing as well.

Do you actually believe he's worth 7 million a year?

I was thinking closer to 5, which is Zadorov money.

EDM is unlikely to win a Bouchard trade. Maybe a team like Ottawa or Buffalo that really wants to take the next step looks at him but they aren't returning a Thompson or a Stutzle or Tkachuck etc. Maybe Detroit is wiling to consider it but they aren't moving Seider or Edvinsson. Edmonton is almost certainly best served signing him. If he signs for $9.5 per so be it. In a few years a number of defenders will be making that or more. Dahlin really set the market for the younger guys. The Power deal didn't do anything to soften it either.

Yes, The Oilers don't need a great Offensive D-Man because they have one. You trade him and then that will be a new hole. Ekholm is by FAR the best overall defenseman on the Oilers and he will be the 3rd highest paid defenseman on the team next year, thats just the way it goes when signing good and bad long term contracts.

He doesn't pass the eye test, anyway. I keep thinking "well, this is an adventure" whenever he handles the puck in the defensive zone. :)

Trading Bouchard is a mistake.

Trading one of the forwards with a NTC and full NMC is nearly impossible to do, but would make more sense.

Who wants to get dealt when they feel they have a shot at the cup on their team?
