Philly is not trading MDZ for Yak. When healthy, MDZ goes against top lines so others don't have to. Even if it's for 1 year, keeping MDZ is a smart move.

Yak is not better than Voracek, Simmonds or Weise at RW...or Schenn and Konecny at LW. Unless we are trading Read for Yak, it makes no sense.

And with MDZ hurt, it means the Flyers will be keeping other vets like Streit and Schultz until MDZ returns.

Unless Chiarelli wants to retain 50% of Yakupovs contract i seriously doubt that a Sproul+Jurco deal would work out cap wise for us. And we already have far to many wingers as it is. Doubt that we really have a spot for him any how.

Oleksiak and a pick makes sense from Dallas. Or if they prefered Nemeth. Regardless one of the three of Backman, Ollie, and Nemeth needs to be traded. Dallas doesn't need 8 dmen on the roster again.

Yak is a decent buy low candidate. God knows there'd be no spotlight on him down here. A coach and system that believes in offense and plenty of opportunity to seize a job because of the injuries. I can't say they'd make the best offer but all three defenders have talent. They just need to be given a run of games and an opportunity to show they're ready for the next step.

I can't see the Oilers getting an actual NHL player back for Yak - I would imagine it would become a turd for turd type deal

jordan nolan is a turd that won't flush with 2 rings and when he isn't in the penalty/press box he is normally not the worst on the ice. you know you want him.

It's a 2,500-word article explaining seven potential trade scenarios for Yakupov, with full reasoning/rationale. Not sure why you wouldn't want to "click" that if you are at all interested in the Yakupov situation or what might well be the next trade to go down in the NHL.

I like Yak and am very interested but to say that those are plausible and potential trade scenarios is just a stretch. In all likelyness Yak stays put. Maybe he goes to Chicago? Maybe. Throwing 6 more teams in just for the sake of a title/word count and sharing your ideas, not true substance is misleading. You mislead people for website views. Thats my only issue.

I'd like to see it be Philly or Florida. If CHI would Mark M. be a even trade? Maybe?

Outside of a 3rd round pick, I'm not sure what the Panthers would offer. Maybe Petrovic, but, even then, I'd be hesitant. With Gudbranson gone, he fills a need of sorts. And considering that the Panthers' success last year was a result of the team as a whole playing together and buying into a system, I'm not sure that Florida is a good fit for Yak.

Everyone assumes a quadratic development curve with players. I mean, it's more likely, but I firmly believe Yakupov's will be more like a quartic function. That is to say my expectation of his career curve is:

Increasing
Decreasing
Increasing
Decreasing

Or more simply he's initially doing well, but stagnates and declines. Then he figures things out and actually hits a solid peak, then trends downwards with age. I have no real "proof" here - it's all just my opinion. I don't think he'll ever hit his initial projections, but he still has the potential for a very good career.

I took a quick rip through the league and came up with seven teams that might have interest in Yakupov and assets of interests to the Oilers: http://thehockeywriters.com/oilers-shopping-yakupov-7-potential-buyers/

Your thoughts?

I would be interested in Curtis Lazar even if we have to add a 3rd. Its not so much Lazar has more talent than Yak, its the fact hes a player the Oilers desperately need.

Add grit tenacity and most importantly take pressure off RNH to fill that role.

I thought there was too much emphasis on what the other teams had that Edmonton would want, rather than their need for Yakupov.

I still think Yakupov could have a solid career, as a top 6 winger who doesn't have the drive the offense on his line; my comparable would be Richard Zednik. Not worthy of a first overall pick, but still a top line player.
