For the record, I hadn't looked too closely at the board here, but I'm sure some of my ideas are not unique while others might be. Looking forward to feedback.

I would say add the Devils. We have a ton of cap space and enjoy taking on these projects like DSP, Bennett, and so on. He could also get a lot of playing time with us as opposed to other teams.

I would guess we send Yak out east. Most fans believe he can still reach his potential, just not in Edm.

I took a quick rip through the league and came up with seven teams that might have interest in Yakupov and assets of interests to the Oilers: http://thehockeywriters.com/oilers-shopping-yakupov-7-potential-buyers/

Your thoughts?

My thoughts is "potential buyers" is awfully presumptuous. There had been little interest or league talk about Yak recently until Chicago and theres little reason to think anyone else has been interested recently. If youre going to make stuff up and shoot in the dark just say so instead of adding click baity titles to make us go to your site to read a few unsubstantiated guesses.

What does New Jersey have to offer though? Potentially a higher second-round pick than Philadelphia I guess, but if the Oilers are looking for a right-shooting, power-play defencemen — which I believe they are — then the Devils probably aren't a trade partner for Yakupov. That is, assuming the Devils wouldn't want to trade Damon Severson straight up for Yakupov?

It was reported around free agency day that he could have been had for a 3rd rounder. The Devils have a lot of draft picks plus a couple of prospects Edmonton could be interested in.

I would agree that the headline makes it seem like there's reports about interest from up to 7 teams, not just your best guess at who might be interested. Since I read the posts and found out what the story was actually about, I didn't bother clicking the link on principle.

Several teams need a top-nine winger for the start of the season. My belief is that asking price is being driven up as we speak. I highly doubt a third-rounder or even a second-rounder lands Yakupov right now. Perhaps a prospect who was drafted in the second or third round but is trending nicely towards becoming an impact player. Like Pokka or Sproul.

It's a 2,500-word article explaining seven potential trade scenarios for Yakupov, with full reasoning/rationale. Not sure why you wouldn't want to "click" that if you are at all interested in the Yakupov situation or what might well be the next trade to go down in the NHL.

I would honestly be surprised if you could find 10 fans of any team that believe he can still reach his potential. The guy was a 1st overall pick so that initial potential is as high as it gets. There's an extremely large difference between salvaging his career and becoming a top 6 guy compared to reaching the potential he once had.

If the cap can be worked out, I'd love to see him in Calgary but very highly unlikely, the Oilers trade him to the Flames.

Ottawa Senators

...
The Senators are down a winger with Clarke MacArthur suffering another concussion in training camp, so Yakupov could fill that top-nine void better than the trio of prospects currently auditioning in Matt Puempel, Ryan Dzingel and Phil Varone.
Yakupov for Wideman is fair enough, but again there is potential for a bigger trade here.

What makes you say that Larry? Because of draft pedigree? Dzingel is a very efficient player, a bit like a Carl Hagelin clone with his speed and smarts. Puempel might already be a better goal scorer than Yakupov, the kid can really put the puck in the net. Varone was unexpected but at this point, we might prefer to give him a chance instead of spending money and assets to get Yakupov. His effort, speed and skill has been very good in camp. If he can continue doing that, he will be more valuable than yakupov

Edmonton would probably need to retain some salary in this 2-for-2 — Yakupov and Pouliot for Wideman and Lazar — but, unlike Eugene Melnyk, Oilers owner Daryl Katz has been more than willing to take a financial hit if it helps Chiarelli improve the roster. So that shouldn’t be a roadblock.

Interesting...

Lazar + Wideman + MacArthur (total salary = 0.8325 for 1 year then RFA + 1.6 for 2 years + 18.75 for 4 years)

for

Pouliot + Yakupov (total salary = 12.0 for 3 years + 2.5 for 1 year)

Edmonton take a bit more salary back (6.6825) but IF MacArthur contract was NOT insured and IF he is NOT playing again, they will save cap space (for the future 2 seasons) by putting him on LTIR

Ottawa is only interested in this IF MacArthur contract was NOT insured and IF he is NOT playing again. 2 things we have no idea about for now

Hoffman-Turris-Stone
Pouliot-Brassard-Ryan
Smith-Pageau-Yakupov
Dzingel/Varone/Puempel-Kelly-Neil
Pyatt

But then what to do with Dzingel/Varone/Puempel? Dzingel deserves to be in the NHL as a regular for sure.

So is there really 10 teams out there with spare 3rd round picks or completely busted prospects needing to be moved for both team and player?

I'd like to see it be Philly or Florida. If CHI would Mark M. be a even trade? Maybe?
