Post-Game Talk: Oilers score 5 goals and an ENG without McDrai

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Great effort without McDrai.

Is there any other coach in this entire league who would still have Skinner as the main starting goalie? Knob has balls the size of raisins, I just don’t get it. By now you would have to give Pickard a long look, not that I expect miracles from him but you have to try.
Skinner losing the net to Pickard reminds me so much of Dan Cloutier losing the net to Alex Auld in Vancouver.

Can't win a cup with this goaltending. Not sure WTF they were thinking.

S. Skinner's play in terms of consistency is tanking fast. At least if the goal is to be consistently good. He use to bounce back after a bad game but now he is just stringing them together. Had the Kraken scored one more and they lost this game in OT I think it would have been demoralizing.

As for J. Skinner, what he has done in the last 20 or so games is offensively play much closer to the guy who put up so many goals over his career. He's always been streaky but now he is consistently getting his chances and without giving up a lot which is the real bonus. Personally, I don't mind him playing down the line-up. It lets him be "the guy" rather than having to defer to McDavid or Draisaitl. In the past he has done well playing away from the team's top line center.

Finally, Nuge looked like the kid who broke into the league. I still say that passive Nuge has a lot to do with what he has been asked to do by many of his coaches. Play safe. Defense first and defer to others.

.871 save percentage for Skinner tonight. Dude is incapable of an over .900 number. He's going to cost this team so many games in the playoffs again. All we can do as fans is hope Pickard plays the majority because I sure as heck trust him more.
His save pct is one thing, but his hockey IQ and skill set are comparable to that of a door knob

I used to dislike Skinner because he was so inconsistent. But to be fair to him, hes been more consistent this year than inconsistent. Hes been consistently bad.

Having a game like tonight is fine. But this is the norm for him this season.

Kicks out bad rebounds. Can’t look around screens with his 6 foot 4 frame. And on the breakaway he just falls forward like Mike Smith when he was 39 years old and injured.

My playoff forward group is:

Skinner McDavid Hyman
Kane Leon Frederic
Podkolzin RNH Arvidsson
Janmark Henrique Brown

I would probably swap Perry for Janmark based on play this year. I suspect that playoffs might be too fast for Perry though depending on the team, so I could see Janmark coming in.

KK will probably swap JS out though

As per Knoblauch, he doesn’t make the starting goaltending decisions, Schwartz does.

Which explains…a lot.
This can't possibly be true--that a head coach exerts so little authority? Did he say this in an interview? if so then for god sake's man grow a set.

This! Why is he always on his belly?

The oilers themselves sent down Campbell who had a slightly worse save %. Skinner is untouchable. They left a million in cap space on the table and didn’t upgrade Skinner. “Too much of a risk” as some local media put it. “What if the new guy isnt as good as Skinner” they said.

Watched the game back, and although the Skinner hate is largely warranted, 3 of those goals fall squarely on our defense and our defense only.

Kakko's second goal, what a surprise, Bouchard flubs it on the blue line with a 0/100 effort play trying to force the puck into the middle without support, Kakko is sprung.

3rd goal against, it's 5v5 and they're rolling us with a cycle, Ekholm is caught in no man's land having completely missed his assignment, and stops dead in front of Skinner for a full screen.

Last goal against, what the actual f*** is our whole team doing here? But, Nurse decides to go down on one knee, with a man to his right, trailing his back leg - which would only effectively take a pass away into the slot where another Oiler is also rushing back (so, a useless decision) and stops skating. There are two forwards sitting at the opposite side of the net waiting for that cross crease pass, no Oiler is behind that line. Nurse doesn't take away the man, and blows the assignment.

I get it. Skinner isn't it, but holy shit, our D is making absolutely bone headed plays every single game and are getting off because the goalie can't stop a puck either.

Fantastic game from everyone not named Nurse and Walman. Possibly the worst pair against the rush I can ever remember.

Please, coaching staff - please don’t let this pair be a thing where they hang 1-3 goals against per game but we are still addicted to playing them regardless. Please. Just break it up before it actually costs us.
Knobs partially cost us the cup by putting Kulak and Nurse back together in the finals. (to his credit he made a lot of good line up moves throughout the playoffs)

Been saying for the past few years...with Skinner in net, need 4+ goals in order to have a chance at winning.
With most teams, 4+ is almost guaranteed win but not with the Oil

Nurse should try not backing into his own net and defending rushes like a dumb rookie. Those goals aren’t going in on any other pair.

Nurse - Walman have been deservedly shredded on the rush the last two games and that’s of nobody’s fault than their own.

The goalie sucks. Help him by not being dumb. The other two pairs can manage it. Nurse - Walman can’t.
It's funny because our best Nurse pair has been: Nurse with Stetcher.
They won so not sure where the 'problem' is.
You can't call out Bouchard without being told that you are special needs. It's the way it works around here....

Ryan and Jones are a given.

Kapanen should be the 3rd guy out.

After that I'd personally go Janmark

Skinner-McDavid-Hyman
Frederik-Draisaitl-Kane
Podkolzin-RNH-Arvidsson
Brown-Henrique-Perry
Danmark should probably b in over perry esp in playoffs gonna need some speed. But yes Janmark needs to pick up alot

Not happening with Stu. Hopefully knobblauch can figure out in his brain to roll pickard in the playoffs. We just need average goaltending. Please. lol
Picakard can't handle full time duties been proven they will litterally have to rotate these guys every game and I'm not even joking
