Post-Game Talk: Oilers ruin the Yzerplan

I'd like to dig into situational face-off information. Don't know where to find it. But we have similar eye tests which suggest the Oilers are losing a fair bit of PP face-offs.

I posted an article about the Coaches's App which deliver real time data and it alludes to the two most requested information included face-off information. Funny that a long-time advance stat theorem had been that face-offs didn't matter.

Another article on the Coaches App: The SAP Coaching Insights App Is Changing Hockey: ‘This Is What You Can’t See With Video’ The app provides historical data of previous face-off results for every pairing of two players—not only in total, but also based on each face-off dot location. Winning a draw, particularly the first one after taking a penalty, can be critical in killing a two-minute short-handed situation. “If we can win the first face-off and get a 200-foot clear, it takes our opponents’ power play, maybe 20, 25 seconds to to try to gain access to our zone again, and then they’ve got to expend a lot of energy to do it,” Sullivan says.

That said, there are alot of variables to look at with this ice-cold PP which is ice-cold across all individual performance. And more aggressive PK tactics which includes disrupting the Oilers with deep kill work extending into the Oilers end and through the neutral zone. It's much bigger than a single support player in a distributor role.
You can get that on NatStatTrick: Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

Leon has taken almost all the PP draws and he's 68.5% out there.

Brown is saving it for the playoffs. As shown from last finals
Is this sarcastic?

Getting through the conference final is likely going to be hell hole this season, assuming we make it out of division (I am thinking we get that far) It was an off playoffs for the Central last post season. With Colorado, Winnipeg, Dallas, all looking good one of those clubs is going to be a tough out. Even Dallas got rid of their deadwood old players and looking better. I still think Suter, Tanev, Ancient Pavelski actually hurt Dallas.

#failed eye test. Thanks for the assist! Have to say I'm surprised to see the result be so dominant. It seems like their first PP face-off tends to be lost and cleared.

EDIT: Haven't looked at Natural Stat Trick in a long time. A great resource. I used to find independent face-off tracking sites which were helpful.

Wish that could be broken down for when the draws are won.

I swear we're getting killed on the opening draw consistently. At least over the past 4/5 games in which I've been noting it and paying attention to it.
Same, I'd like to be able to parse out the initial PP face-off results. As Sullivan reinforces its value on the kill and in the Oilers case I think we are seeing greater contended PP's that extend to their own end and neutral ice.

I'm not sure what you're expecting from a 1M player and 9 games in

That he ever produces? He's not a 1M player this year either in pay and deferred pay. He's actually occupying 4M cap this season right?

He's occupying a starter spot and getting regular games and minutes. This "he's only getting paid this" is a poor argument anyway. A contending team shouldn't have several players that are just fill. Connor Brown needs to be working harder and probably would acknowledge that.

This isn't just about 9 games in. Brown has scored 6 goals through 125 games of being an Oiler. At some point he was supposed to be back to the player he ideally was.

ffs stay at home D like Ceci score more than Connor Brown.

I understand his deferred pay applies this year but it was signed last year and it only got carried over cause our cap was maxed last year. He took 1M because of that.

I'm confident his game will come, same as Janmark and Henrique. We all bitched about them and they all came around at the right time

C'mon. Taking that tact ignores the pay in either season. Last year you were one of the posters saying 1.25M or whatever it was. It can't be both years he's making squat. The deferred pay is real and occupies our cap.

Connor Brown took 1M because thats about what he's worth, league minimum at this point. You even alluded to it in your suggestion "what do you expect from a 1M buck player. Its not like Connor brown has been any value bargain here. Not at all. After Last season I'm not convinced Brown would be more than a walk on.

I never bitched about Henrique. Behind him all the way, yes it'll come with him. Janmark career wise has been mroe about playoffs but I said it was time to cut bait. you can't just have a player showing up and producing in playoffs. This essentially causes the star players to have to dig down so hard just to get traction in regular season because nobody else cashing for most of seasons.

I was even prepared to take a different tact on Brown but he's been not much again, and he sure owes the club to be more than this. What are we paying him 1M/Goal?

Yikes, not the start we were looking for. Only positive tonight is we haven’t extended Skinner’s contract to 8 million a year yet.
