Here Pods last 5 games. When I saw the wild I saw Devin Shore and that's who Podz is. A guy that has a great skillset and will be a great scorer in every league in the world but the NHL. He'd light up the NLA, Extraliga, AHL, ECHL, NCAA, USHL, CHL, Liiga and do well in the KHL.

Kostin 2.0. He's 23 and has 40 NHL points. 26 of those from his rookie year. Bottom 6 for a mill... sure! Top 6 beside McDavid or Drai and not scoring... ???

I will say.. I think the Oilers have a good team and are much better than their record. They have to make a few savvy trades to right the shop. Nurse out is a big problem. Currently the plan is to overplay the top guys and wear them out.. I hate this plan. So I don't think we are trash. I think we can still go deep in playoffs. BUT a few changes have to happen.

Platoon goalie with Stu - Vej, Vanecek, Blackwood, Mrazek are attainable (yes I know 3 are Czechs)
Need to a get a real 2RD yesterday (especially with Nurse out). Maybe time to call up Savoie and 'gift' him the Top 6. Try it for 5 games and see if he gels. Philp in bottom 6 wouldn't hurt right now despite being an ordinary player.. speed and grit.

IMHO, the Oilers' offense is built primarily and predominantly to "feed McDrai". Lines not having one of McDrai seem to be little more than time-killers to give those two a breather -- if they score, great, but its not really expected. Thus, it shouldn't be a particular surprise that these downline players are not productive because the system is essentially designed for them to fail.

The "feed McDrai" strategy is a good one in the abstract with two such phenomenal players, but that also relies on them both being healthy and productive. If they get worn down or simply go cold, then the entire system breaks down. This is the precise opposite of a depth-scoring team.

Jackson's summer moves simply reflect this system: Load up on mediocre time-killers. Everybody and their dog saw that what the Oilers needed was upgrades on defense and a prime-time goalie, but under the Oilers system these things are low priorities (and last summer doesn't seem to have been a priority at all even with the loss of Ceci).

Also, it seems that time has proven through multiple coaches that it really doesn't matter who the Oilers coach is, because McDrai are simply going to do whatever they want whenever they want to do it. If they want to play together, they'll end up playing together even if they start out running separate lines.

Even with all these defects in their build, the Oilers can still be an extremely tough playoff team if McDrai are healthy and get hot. Otherwise, not.

My take anyway, please feel free to disagree. Viva la difference!

Hyman and Arvidsson have struggled offensively to start the season but both have played well and I expect the offense to improve as the season moves on, once they are back in the lineup at least. The Oilers didn't play well last night but have played pretty well in most of their games this season. If they make a couple of solid moves at the deadline they still have a chance to be a strong team come playoff time. I have no confidence in Stuart Skinner though, he is wildly inconsistent and gets outplayed by the other teams goalie almost every game. People keep making excuses for him and blame the defense but the other team's goalies face the same and in some cases more quality scoring chances and they seem to be able to come up with some big saves. If he is a starting goalie he needs to play like one. Skinner outside of 4 or 5 games was pretty bad in last seasons playoffs as well.

Podkolzin is 10x the hockey player of Devin Shore and the Kostin comparison is a lazy theyre both Russian so they're the same - Kostin never played a lick of defence and had zero attention to detail... that's why he's struggling to get minutes on the Sharks of all teams

His puck retrieval is great, some of the best analytics around. He's the last guy to blame or complain about - how about Nuge, Skinner, Arvidsson... anybody else... step up?

Offensively.. please tell me how he's a 10x better point producer than Devin Shore or Kostin when they were Oilers?

Shore had roughly 29 points in 140 games (.20 ppg)
Kostin had 21 points in 57 games (.36)
Podz has 5 points in 21 games (.25)

I, personally, blamed a lot of guys including the ones you mentioned and more.lol
