Should’ve fought someone.

They are still 5-0 when there’s a fight. Just putting it out there.
I suspect you’re being facetious with this comment but it does underline a huge problem this team has and that’s its embarrassing lack of physicality. You don’t need to be fighting every game but you do have to hit people. This team has been single digits for hits after the second period frequently this year. I’ve never seen a successful team play this way before and there’s a reason for it. Hitting wears team down as the game goes on. We are the team being worn down as the game goes on. If this coaching staff is intentionally focusing the team on not playing physical then the coaching staff is the issue. If they’re not then the players are. I know Knoblach has made comments about this but I’m not sure if that’s really his philosophy or if he’s just covering for his players. I never got the impression he was a moron last year.

I think the team misses Kane more than we think.

Lots of guys on this team play better when they get dragged into the fight and they just don't have anyone doing that right now.

Yep, I look at this lineup and I don’t see where that “fight” is supposed to come from and that’s clearly a problem. People can point at Nurse in that regard, I suppose, but you don’t want a defenseman leading your chaos. It has to be a forward.

Posted this in the GDT but added some slight tweaks:

We have no identity. We aren't fast anymore, we aren't a rush team anymore (we don't create hardly any chances off the rush anymore because we can't break out very well and/or are too slow), we aren't a defense-first team, we aren't an offense-first team, we aren't a skill team anymore, we aren't physical, we don't play with any energy, we aren't a volume shooting team from everywhere and up top, we don't generate any quality looks in the o zone. We are just a perimeter team that can't really generate any good looks almost anywhere in the ice unless it's a perfect passing play which is the only thing we try to do. We can't get any shots through, we can't shoot from distance, we don't change the angle of any of our shots and offer zero deception when shooting (been a problem for years). We are the worst skilled shooting team in the league bar none and it's been like this for years, which is why nobody ever bothers to shoot anymore.

As much as I blame a lot of this on the players, I worry that we are being coached to disregard physicality (knobby confirmed this during the playoffs), which obviously bleeds into the ability to play with intensity and passion. We aren't being coached on how to shoot properly (evidenced by our constant inability to get shots through traffic or have any deception on our shots). As much as the players need to get their heads out of their asses, it feels like, for another year, it seems the makeup of the staff that help prepare this team is two steps behind other orgs as well,

That being said, there's no excuse for what players like Pooshart are doing out there. I don't care if you are an ice-in-your veins player and need to look even keel in order to play your game; you look like you just dont give a shit out there, and that's a bad look considering that's your m.o. RNH talks to the media and proclaims that he's playing well and getting his looks. In what realm? You are the Bouchard of forwards. Zero intensity, losing every puck battle you get into, incapable of doing anything and looking like zero effort. When was the last time we got a chance that hanafin got in the third to take the lead? I can't honestly recall more than a handful all season long where we get a point blank shot like that. We are just held to the outside with zero will/ability to drive the middle of the ice.

It's time to start culling half of this lineup and bringing in energy players like Garland types...etc, because, I'm sorry, but they are better than 75% of our players and actually provide energy while being able to not be a complete black hole in transition and in the o zone.

That, or f***ing call up a couple of guys (rip Savoie who got hurt last night) from Bakersfield and start sitting some of these lazy ass vets.

This is directly due to knobby, who proclaimed during playoffs that physicality wasn't important to him as it was a sign of not having the puck and that he'd rather his players "check with their legs".

I'm sorry, but this is the knobby system and unless we were to, for whatever reason, get rid of him, we will continue to be coached like that. Not saying a Kane isn't going to come in here and just smack someone, but we have forces internally playing against physicality, which is also translating to lack of intensity.

But does that even surprise you given how little emotion and timid Knobby is on the bench and off the ice?

The frustrating thing is that they aren't even playing poorly, I'd even say that they're playing pretty well at even strength but they've been so unclutch and that shooting percentage continues to be absurdly low.

I still maintain that there's no panic that should be had. This crazy low shooting percentage on a team with plenty of skill and poor PP and PK is bound to normalize. They'll go on a run at some point and likely soon. Long term though there will need to be an upgrade or two but this team is better than the record indicates IMO.
They need to bear down, to play with more urgency all the time. It's why we see the lapses, imo.

I think it will all level out, but they need to find it sooner than later, because they can't be battling for the wild card (or worse) until they get it together.

Pretty sure this is just an Oilers' Nation merch drop (or something), but one never knows until we know.

The most nauseating thing last night was how completely lifeless the team was for about half of the game.

Some of our top players , Bouch, mcdavid have struggled. This team won’t go anywhere unless that changes. Team is built around those guys

Yep. "Slow, old, blah blah blah."

Two of the least slow and least old players on the team are killing the team currently. If those two simply just played up to somewhere close to their personal standards we wouldn't be trying to pin losses on different 3rd liners this season.

I'll give McDavid a pass because he's back before schedule, but he just hasn't looked right all year.

Is he also responsible for the extremely underwhelming offense? The 30th rank offense? If this team was scoring goals like nobody’s business then set up the cross, but when you’re scoring less than teams that are trying to lose?
Haha there you go deflecting again. No doubt the offence is an issue right now but that has nothing to do with him being ass every 2nd game.

With him I see it as mental. An ankle injury isn't causing him to throw pucks around the ice recklessly and make bonehead decisions generally.

Plays are constantly dying on his stick and I don't know if that could ever be said about him before.

I think it's both. I don't know where 60 goal scorer McDavid went but he hasn't been seen for a long time now.

Adin Hill has a worse sv% than Skinner but more wins. Can you figure out why that is?

So what's that now? 4 maybe 5 loses solely because of horrendous fking goaltending

You can see it in the players game and attitude after defeating goals.

I just knew Vegas would get their first road win against us, it was inevitable.
Bouch's D play was extra awful tonight, might wanna step it up. So should the special teams, lots of garbage going on with this team right now, sigh.

Good post but I disagree with this...all we do with throw low quality pucks on net

it's why our fancy stats look so good and routinely outshoot the opposition then hear "the goals will come!"

He’s always lurking in the shadows. Doesn’t make public appearances since his illness messed up his face

But he’s always got his fingers in the cookie jar
Isn't he trying to sell that former Spelling Manion/F1 Heiress Mansion? lol

I didn't even know he bought that absolutely massive place. Probably stressing out

But let in a brutal tying goal. He is too inconsistent to be a starter.
Heard Ekholm on the GYB pod and he responded very interestingly to a comment about their lack of PK success. Basically said the one PP that Vegas scored on, that he felt the PKers did everything right, were in the lanes and then.... he cut himself off there.

So he basically said that they needed a stop there. He seems like a real leader and didn't throw Stu under the bus or anything, but I just thought it was an interesting non comment, comment.

And Hill's team is #2 in GF/G. The Oilers are 30th. And hey, look who's in 51st place, the goalie that beat us in the Cup Final last year. Why is his team 9-3-1? Funny enough we're not far behind them in the GA/G department. Can you figure out why that is one team is 9-3-1 and the other is 6-7-1?

That looks like Draisaitl's guy from that image. And Bouchard had himself a little dance to boot. What a joke of a performance on that last goal.
Yes. Seriously, 97/29 go towards the side where Ekholm is already. What are they doing? Add sleepy Bouchard. This team is just downright stupid at key times. These are out "core" and "leaders". We might need Lars Eller to come here and show these boys the Junior team shit they are doing

Fair point. Hill is struggling a bit this year but a hot offence is masking that. Funny enough our offence is usually like the golden knights which covers up Skinners garbage numbers.

No doubt offence is an huge issue right now but your refusal to admit that our starting goalie having a bottom of the league GSAE also is a significant issue is hilarious. He’s the sole reason our PK has been historically bad.

The offence will turn it on and then you will start blaming Holland again.

This is my take on things:

None of this matters if we don't win the cup.
None of this matters if we do win the cup.

Conclusion... None of this matters

This is a great illustration of why goalies are voodoo. Ingram was one of the best goalies in the league last year.
