Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose Duck Hunt

He didn't say"they aren't playing good now"

He said they haven't played good all season. They were 3rd. So, the statement is false. Can't wait for your next misdirection.
Well unfortunately the season doesn't end on Feb 21, because the instant the team finally got to the top of the division they've nosedived. They're not a SC contender based on their body of work over the season. And I'm sure you'll spin it to say that not winning the Stanley Cup is somehow acceptable.

No, because unlike you I dont live in basic black and white.

The comment was "they haven't played good all season."

That is false. They were 3rd. They played very well. There has been a segment of play where they also played very poorly.

The point remains and you can't refute it. Love to see it.

It's amazing how ass this forward group is at driving to the net or creating offense below the faceoff circles. Even the Oiler's odd man rush game where most teams create the majority of their offense is more or less dead with this group, they can't even execute 2 on 1s with any degree of competency, not that they create those much anymore.

Team takes the most shots of any team in the NHL, and it's all hail mary point shots because the entire offensive gameplan is based around tip-ins.
I was saying it in the GDT, these guys are poke check kings. They skate hard, I'll give them that, but it's a lot of perimeter cycling and skate by token forechecks. Podkolzin, Perry and Hyman when he's not behind the play like he's been a lot this season are the only ones that get into the fight in puck battles and create some chaos in the offensive zone and around the net. The rest are a bunch of soft perimeter players that are essentially taking laps around the rink. It's fine to have 1-3 of guys like this on the team but the Oilers have like 6-7 of them.
I hope they scrap this entire supporting cast this offseason outside of Podkolzin and bring in all new guys, can't be worse really. Podkolzin and 5 new bottom 6 guys.

Yeah, they were in a good position back in February and completely flubbed it. The best teams maintain their good standing. They have failed to do so. The only standings that matter at the end of the day are the ones when 82 games are played. I just checked the standings on the date in question. The Avalanche were 10th in the league. They're 6th now. LA was 13th. They're now 7th. Do you think they care about the standings back then? Maybe we can hang a banner for being third in the league at a point in the season.

I know what you're saying, but the standings as a whole are a good reflection of the team. They're good, but not great. And I realize what the poster said, there was obviously some hyperbole involved... But today, right now, do you think this team is good enough to win it all?

Are you going to do the Canucks thing now? Hang a banner that says "3rd in the league in February 2025." If they were to miss the playoffs, would you still be happy that they were 3rd in the league at one point? lol, ridiculous.
you said they haven't been good enough all season, the standings proved otherwise. what exactly are you looking for 82-0? i'm assuming that wouldn't be good enough because you wouldn't like the "way" they won those games right?

We have our 3 best players players out of the lineup, including the 2 best players in the world and you guys are pissing and moaning about the owner? and you call me ridiculous? this board is laughably stupid sometimes.

Clearly that's what I said. We need a banner. Hilarious. No wonder no one posts here anymore. You can't even make factual corrections without getting this sort of nonsense in return.

Diversion, distract, move the goal posts.

The point was, we played well for a large segment of the season, before a terrible February.

The rest is noise.

Who is talking about the owner? I don't give a shit about Katz. I also don't care that they were in 3rd place once upon a time. They do not look like a second-round team, let alone a cup contender.

The standings back in February "proved otherwise". The standings now show them as a middle of the pack team.

And part of my problem with the team this season is the lack of scoring behind said two players. With them out I'd like to see some of the other forwards step up and pot some goals. Weren't we touting our scoring depth prior to the season starting? Where is it, exactly?

And now they're in 10th place, tied the St. Louis Blues. A team that was openly mocked on this board for poaching our young talent. This team also has a very low number of wins in regulation. There's virtually no 3 on 3 in the playoffs.
I was merely pointing out how a large contingent of posters on this board want nothing more than to bitch and complain and it seems like they are almost happy when the team is struggling so they can revel in their own misery, and try to pass that misery off to others. Because the second the team is rolling along, those same people disappear. It's exhausting, and they need to be called out on it.

With the decisions they made this summer (taking long-shots on 2RD & 3RD while prioritizing cap space for the deadline), they were not built to be a contender until the deadline and they got healthy. They were built to compete for a decent playoff spot and wait for reinforcements.

Unfortunately the reinforcements (Walman, Frederic, Kane) are only just arriving at the time our core is out with injury.

I did. I'm not a fan of Katz and his braindead hires.

Nope having 30+ million injured is just an “excuse” guys.

The Panthers are in the same situation and are totally killing it.
They also won the Cup last year, softening the blow of losing players to injury.

Don't think Oliver could of had a worst first start tbh. Only 21 shots against lets in 3 while the Oilers dominate and put shoot the ducks 2-1 and still loose with Oliver
.857 save percentage. Had high hopes but I guess that ship has sailed......

From the offer sheets to not addressing the goaltending, to acquiring useless if not detrimental players.. This season has been a picture perfect essay on how not to manage a hockey team.
Don't forget hiring what should of been an abolished from the league GM

Agree...

This team is admittedly only hanging on by a thread without McDrai... but jeezus... did anyone expect them to play much better than 0.500 hockey without McDavid, Draisaitl, Ekholm, Skinner (for what it's worth), Kane, Frederic (mostly), Klingberg? That's literally your top three players (by a mile), your starting goalie (cough, cough), a recent top-6 guy who's still eating top-6 money, your deadline middle six addition and your most logical 7th defensemen to step in for Ekholm's injury.
