Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose Duck Hunt

Skinner has considerably more offensive talent than Kapanen and Janmark.
Kapanen and Janmark have a bit more bite to their game and can PK. Kapanen seems to be snakebitten but has a lot of offensive flair.
Like I said all have their flaws and none of them are legit top 6 forwards.

Since Jan 1st we have the 14th best points%
2nd best xGF
13th best xGA
15th best GF/60
27th GA

So the team is playing like a top 10 team but getting the results of a bottom 10 team.

Lack of skill, lack of goaltending.

Kap gave away the puck on the 3-1 goal so I could see that happening. Unexcusable mistake there, especially for a player not cashing shit and only in the lineup to try to be low event. Jones should be in AHL, why is he even here? Oh I know, our manager went out and got him.. Pods was probably missing some shifts due to still being hurt.
Surely when Mc-D and Drai return then Kap and Jones will be munching popcorn.

Still bewildered as to how either of them are in the lineup when Savoie could be gaining confidence and experience for the playoffs and possibly a significant contribution.

Lol @ the coach bashing

The man is 90-45-10 in regulat season and even better in playoffs. All of it with Skinner/Campbell/pickard as the goalies and Bouchard, Nurse as top 3 Dmen.

Jeff Skinner would pass through waivers if he didn't have a NMC. Using him to justify Knoblauch firing is laughable. Tonight only Nuge, Hyman and Henrique played more shifts than Skinner for forwards.. He was given PP time and was on the ice with our goalies pulled.

Woody was rightfully fired, but advanced stats showed the Oilers were poised to dominate last season.

The best thing he ever did was finally pull Stu in the series vs the Canucks (something Woody never had the nuts to do). This season, every forward has looked like shit (to their standards) outside of your favourite, Leon.

Something is amiss

Close but no Ciger.

Ol Zdeno Cíger had a career 14.1 career shooting percentage. This team with and without its super elites are a bottom third league shooting team. They are bottom heavy with third and fourth line player types.
Can't out score their mistakes which continues to be an issue that is usually magnified in tighter playoff series hockey.

Made it interesting at the end. But failed to take points when the Kings slipped on a banana tonight.

None of the roster changes have really clicked for this team.
This is my kind of post. Pun, play on words, reference to past.

I liked Ciger. I liked Satan more.

The younger folk here will be scared by that statement. ;)

Hey God, I meant Miro Satan. just to be clear. hehe

For sure. Like I've said all year watch him against clubs actually that are decent and bringing even a modicum of checking and coverage. When a good opponent is in to the game J Skinner is shutdown, and theres nothing else about the player. The only reason you even have him is some scoring.

J Skinner is kind of a throwback, in a bad, way, from different eras where a guy could be just a goal scorer and little else. But in the NHL of 2025 you're expected to be able to play. He doesn't survive board battles well, had trouble n the WC working through traffic (another thing I wondered)

I'm hardpressed to think this guy is going to be much help in playoffs. Of course theres no precedent for it.
I don't think he gets many games in the playoffs. Is he Petr Klima without the stick tape?

Both those guys PK ability is massively overrated. Kapanen plays as much on the PK as Podkolzin, and Janmark has been awful at it this year.

I have no idea why Kapanen still gets into the lineup on a nightly basis, he's consistently a liability on the ice when it comes to handling the puck.

Quick feet, 10 cent head, with hands so bad he probably accidently cuts himself multiple times every morning buttering his toast

I think it’s cause McD is out the team is probably a shitty locker room to be around with how awful the team is performing and all the losing. Not a great environment for a kid.

This team just isn't very good.

In regulation time only, the Oilers are .526 on the season right now, which is about 7th in the Conference and about 15th in the League. They're about as good this season as they were c.2001-2004 when they either missed the playoffs or went out in the first round every year.

He does well on our pk it seems. But yeah he seems to overplay and not always look for the basic thing. He's a guy that probably looks amazing at any lesser rung of hockey but trouble putting it together here. I was hoping but yet another guy that gets nervous and snakebit.

One can say Oilers were poised to draft in top 5 had they kept Woody and their defensive system in front of Skinner/Campbell and this defense.

Knob was the best coach in NHL last season.

This season are you blaming McDavids slump on coaching?Did knob break Stuart? If you are going to blame him for slumps then give him kudos for Draisaitl's goals too. Draisaitl's 200ft game has looked much different under Knob. No more huff n puff half ass efforts from him anymore.

By my count we have around half a dozen forwards that could be munching popcorn. Like another poster said we sure gotta lotta 4th line forwards.

Knob is like a lot of coaches in that he prefers vet players even as lineups like this and games like this are screaming for some young talent and injection of something.

It's not that they are great at it.. it's just that unlike Skinner and Perry they can be sent out on PK making them more valuable.

Yeah I was mad when Ciger left the oilers and returned to Europe. He played well with Dougie.
Then when we traded Satan for Barrie Moore & Craig Millar I got mad again…

It's not just McDavid. What happened to Arvidsson, J Skinner, Henrique, Nuge, Hyman? All these guys fell off at once? Unbelievable.

Sather's worst trade.

This team could use some Satan. So many bottom roster players who can't finish. This is Ghosts of Darkness Decade stuff without the super elites carrying people on their backs.

TBH I don't mind Knobs choices most of the time. Probably should have won tonight, no puck luck. Having only support players RNH, Bouch and Hyman run the PP was painful to watch. Even gaining the zone on the man advantage was a difficult task. Hopefully better things to come...soon I hope.

Not much they could do about Ciger, he had a phobia for flying and couldn't handle it anymore.

The Satan trade sucked, but Ron "screaming" Low couldn't stand him.

All good support players, not a single driver in that list.
Henrique was a driver but too old. Nuge would rather ride his horsey. Skinner and Arvid hit and miss. Hyman is his own worst enemy now. Trying the same 2-3moves everytime he touches the puck. Jam plays everytime. Goalies have seen it before. Hyman now is basically what he was in Toronto. Was inevitable the fallback. He's a 20-30 goal guy. The last year was extreme outlier.
