The fact that Babcock identified Hyman as an important piece and it was the number one thing Leafs fans hated about Babcock, is an enormous thing in Babcock's favor.

Woah now. Hyman had cement for hands his first few years in the league and kept getting force fed top minutes because he liked that he could win board battles and get the puck to Matthews and Marner. But the drawback was watching Hyman fumble literal tap ins those 2 set up for him over and over so yeah any fan base would complain.

By the middle of his time with the Leafs he figured it out and was starting to produce. Then he produced in the regular season and had cement hands in the playoffs. Then he left and figured out the playoff thing.

That is a very optimistic take of stan bowman. This is a move of a man with no moves left.

Bowman I have no confidence in. If Babcock is hired it's because all the principals in the organization, including McDavid and Draisaitl, sign off on it.

Does that make it a smart idea? I don't know. But people don't understand the Oilers if they think their star players are going to be blindsided by a Babcock hire.

It was more so it was just so insanely forced the first year/2. He had hands of stone and wasn’t ready for the top line but was stapled there anyways, even when he struggled. Hyman worked hard to improve over the years.

We all know the history, but I genuinely believe the Oilers would perform well with him behind the bench. If the players were on board, that would be interesting to see.
