Either dump Soup by attaching picks and whatever else necessary, if they want to be a true contender

or

Rebuild by moving on from McDrai, if they're not gonna address the Campbell issue. They won't be competitive as long as they have 5M tied up in Campbell, all they're gonna do is waste prime McDavid years.

Eichel isn't McDavid but look at Buffalo now.
It isn't one or the other imho. Gotta do both.

I wonder if EDM management have thought about these things in the past 8 years , the holes and bad moves are so obvious its incredible , they had like 9 years to improve the team and this is where the team is now , its crazy.

A professional NHL GM thats PAID to improve the team gave campbell a 5x5 with a 10 team NMC :laugh:

How are edmonton fans not rioting
And yet a year ago everyone was praising them for getting Campbell. Maybe every goalie seems to struggle because of the way the Oilers play.

So they just happen to have far better performance than other available models? Last season sportsbooks mopped the floor with twitter analytics, for example.

For sports betting, being as accurate as possible tends to be the safest way to win money for the site. Sportsbooks have a long and proven track record for accurate predictions.
Are you a gambling addict?

People who act like this make me think “gambling addict”.

They started wasting McDavid's career moments after drafting him, by trading those picks for Reinhart. Bob Nicholson seems to still run the show in Edmonton.

Still, there's no reason that the Campbell/Skinner combo can't do for Edmonton what Adin Hill and Darcy Kuemper have done in recent years. But you need your coach to figure a few things out with regard to deploying the bottom-six.

The next step just isn't: trade a generational player for beans.
Ekholm is the only Oiler who could crack Vegas' roster on the blueline.

nurse could if salaries weren’t an issue.

Nurse is not so bad that he can’t be a mid pairing guy. He’s just horrendously overpaid and overplayed.

He's a bottom paying guy on most teams, but Vegas is too deep when healthy.
He's a 2nd pairing guy on most team, but paid like he's a #1 star D-man. His salary is the issue.

Ummm, regardless of his other raw talents and abilities, after just a few of his patented boneheaded plays Nurse would be shipped off by McCrimmon to somewhere. Only Holland could sign that dude at that price and still keep him on after so many defensive FUBARs.

The Nurse and Campbell contracts are obvious albatrosses, but I lowkey think that Ken Holland's midrange contracts for league minimum caliber players have been more harmful to the team on a dollar per dollar basis (or at least more harmful than the Nurse contract). Especially considering how frequently and consistently he hands them out. If we had pro caliber GM that cared about player ability instead of player loyalty we'd be able to avoid dumpster fire contracts, many of which turn into cap dumps/dead cap. Zack Kassian, Jesse Puljujarvi, Kailer Yamamoto, Warren Foegele, Kyle Turris, Connor Brown, Duncan Keith, Brett Kulak. Jesus christ.

Ken Holland is by far the worst GM in the NHL.

It's just fake hype. Publications putting Canadian teams high gets people to buy subscriptions or views or social media engagement. Edmonton is not winning anything with Skinner/Campbell. Edmonton has not shown any ability to get over the hump. It's just like the Leafs, they'll be ranked in top 5 Cup odds every year the next decade even though we all know the Coyotes probably have better odds at winning a Cup than that core.

Difference between Leafs and Oilers is Leafs have probably the best team in the league and just choke year after year, Oilers have McJesus and Drai but honestly the team around them is just bad. They can only do so much. McDavid is turning 27 this year. At 27 Gretzky had won 3 Cups and was traded to LA that off-season. It's criminal he hasn't even won a game past the 2nd round yet. Huge waste.
When I'm right I'm right

#FreeMcDavid

The depth on this team is god awful and it is truly amazing they are so much into cap hell when you look at who they are lining up in critical wing and blueline roles. And I’m talking when McDavid is healthy.

Without him….it looks grim. And they can’t even really ice 12 forwards at this point.

Even the guys who used to be promising are looking bad. Bouchard is basically MA Bergeron out there. Broberg is a anonymous and can’t even beat Desharnais out for ice time. Ekholm…Mr Reliable…not sure if it’s injury recovery or what but he has fallen off a cliff. Then you got guys like Janmark and McLeod getting second line minutes up front and the carcass of Connor Brown playing major minutes.

Thank god for Warren freaking Foegele I guess. And looks like if you give Kane more minutes than these other stiffs he will score. No excuse for him not to be playing 20 minutes a night moving forward.

wasn't st. louis bottom of the league a good chunk of time the last time they won the cup?
And? St. Louis coming into that season was a much better, deeper team than the Oilers. I remember they were on of my favorites for the cup before the season started.

But the only people who buy in on the Oilers hype don't watch much hockey outside of Edmonton or what SN tells them.

iirc its the same situation. a team everyone thought was going to do well sucked instead, then shot up the standings.
Oilers now have a long history of underachieving so it's hard to buy in, true.
