Oilers hire Mike Babcock as head coach, DJ Smith as associate coach

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
What's wild is it will take one story, one anecdote, one rumour and the whole thing will go off the rails. And after what happened in CBJ when the Spittin Chiclets guys broke it, it won't take some insider needing to double source something or for a player to formally go to the PA. Anyways, the level of horrible Babcock is just dwarfs any other hardass coach in the league. So many people are understandably out to get him, that it's hard to imagine this isn't a dumpster fire all season long.

The NHL & NHLPA found no wrongdoing in their investigation so from his perspective he's done nothing wrong. Why would he apologize exactly? It seems people want an apology for him being an asshole, I don't think that will ever happen.

I don't think their findings were that he never did anything wrong, their findings were that he didn't do anything that justifies an outright ban from the league.

Forgot how much I can't stand this goof. Appears that the self-absorbed jackass has learned nothing during his period in timeout.

Well how fun would it be if a toned down Babcock came back to coach?

I think McDavid’s yelling in the Cup finals caused more trauma than any of Babcock’s mind games. 😂

I mean there are players who did much worse shit who had full length careers in the NHL.

No apology is fine, but don't come out and blatantly lie about why you were done in CBJ.

Recycling a coaching staff from the maple leafs is certainly a choice for an organization that is struggling to get over the hump.

He's an asshole but so were many other coaches from prior eras. The players nowadays would not handle a Babcock, Keenan, or maybe even a Bowman despite his Cup rings.

I gotta hand it to Mike, he only referred to himself in the 3rd person once in that presser. Maybe I missed another utterance or two?
Likely, but Based Anime Fan didn't hear any other references. To be fair, Based Anime Fan wasn't listening for Mike Babcock to refer to himself in the first person. Still a f***ing weird thing to do, if you ask Based Anime Fan.

So what in their findings justifies an apology from him? If there is something, it hasn't been made public.
