Never said a single thing about defense, but continue to project.

He’s been solid for 3/4 months of the year, and 3 of those 4 months have been in a row. Another month and the “but October!” BS will be more ridiculous than it already is.
By solid you mean up and down like a toilet seat? This game makes up for the Capitals game, where we saw an actual theft by a goalie. He got lucky in the Colorado game that the Oilers are an offensive wagon.

You did mention the defense. They played fine against the Kings, they dominated most of the game against the Bruins.

Skinner is just lucky that the Oilers are a good offensively as they are. His top end talent is 100% there, his problem has always been consistency. They don't need .940 most nights, but they can't make up for his .800 nights.

Like I said, he's either very good or very bad, there's nothing in between.

For this team I think a guarantee of home ice every series is important maybe more than others.

Yeah, I agree. I think that matters a lot. I don’t think the whole “Presidents Trophy makes it harder to win” makes sense to me.

I think it’s more very good teams every year lose.

Resign emberson
Whoever scouted him needs a bigger voice in the organization.

You love to see it

(So f*** the lames, but up 5 on the nucks & STL is pretty slick)

The Oilers got ran over in the first period against the Kings and for a good stretch of play against the Bruins there. That required good goaltending to get through. We got that from Skinner. Not complicated.

His problem has been consistency. For three months, he has found it. The last three game stretch was the first blip since early November. Then he responded by basically winning the game for the team tonight.

If/when he implodes again I’ll be the first to criticize him. He’s been objectively pretty good for a while now. Let’s hope that continues instead of pretending he’s the worst goalie in the league and we would never, ever lose a game if we just had someone else.

I’m using the entire history of the presidents trophy. You’re the one who is manipulating the data.

And even then, 2 out of 19 still completely disproved the myth of a presidents trophy curse being real.
Any team that wins the presidents trophy obviously had a good year and is a good team. Right there it means their chances are better than most. I don’t think it means much more beyond that. Dominant teams still find a way to get bounced in the first round every year. Having the team going into playoffs firing on all cylinders is just as important as having the best regular season record, if not more so.

I don’t disagree at all. But I also think winning the presidents trophy would be a great accomplishment irrespective of winning a Stanley Cup or not.

The other piece here - and we don't necessarily have to win the presidents trophy for this - but first in the conference is likely a really really big deal.

Currently it's the difference between round 1 being against Calgary or Colorado. And I think you take Calgary all day.

Although depending on how hard the Avs crash without Rantanen - maybe you do want the Avs? They're less physical for sure.

Well, Calgary is now only 3 points back on Colorado with three games in hand. So it's hard to say who we'll get no matter the placement.
