I think we can forgive a guy who, 1. was playing hurt yet still broke 30-f***ing points in the postseason, and 2. just a year earlier was on pace to break the all-time playoff goals record in a single postseason and doing so while playing visibly hurt. You know why he didn't break that record?

Because Skinner totally imploded and cost the Oilers that series against Vegas.

Again, you're shitting on two of the greatest playoff performers in history to defend a guy who will be mocked for years as the single biggest barrier to this team winning Cups in 2023 and 2024.

I truly can't understand that.

You have guys that lead the entire era in playoff scoring on one hand, and then on the other hand you have a guy who has playoff stats so bad they retroactively improve the legacies of guys like Dan Cloutier and Kelly Hrudey.


How you look at those two hands and decide to blame McDavid and Draisaitl is insane to me. Unfathomable.

McDavid: 7 Games: 3G, 8A, 11 Points +5, Conn Smythe Winner

Crosby (2009): 7 Games: 1G, 2A, 3 Points, -3 - Stanley Cup Champion, 4th on team in scoring

Ovechkin (2018): 5 Games: 2G, 3A, 5 Points, +3, Champion, 5th on team in scoring

MacKinnon (2022): 6 Games: 2G, 4A, 6 Points, -1, 4th on team in scoring

In fact lets look at all three of Crosby's Cup wins combined

2nd Cup (2016): 6 Games: 0G, 4A, 0 rating, 4th on team in scoring
3rd Cup (2017): 6 Games: 1G, 5A, 6 Pts, Finally a Good series for Crosby, 3 Cups

Crosby's last three Finals (all wins) - He has a total of 2G, 11A, 13 Points in 17 games

McDavid has 3 Goals, 11 points in 1 Final (7 Games) and in his Final, Draisaitl was a non factor so Florida could gang up entirely on McDavid.

But sure, yeah. If McDavid could have willed himself to 13 points maybe (as many as Crosby has in 3 Finals combined) the Oilers may have won.

This is a perfect example where superstar hockey players don’t impact a game like how a quarterback, nba player or pitcher do. Overpay any player in a cap era, and it’ll hurt you. I think paying mcdavid 17 mil or whatever he gets will bc lose your cup window.
