Post-Game Talk: Oilers get ducked:

also kinda hard to get there when the 2 best offensive players on the planet can't piss a drop in games 1, 2 and 7..

Amazing that you're blaming a dude who had a generational playoff performance because he didn't score in every single game to defend a goalie with the worst numbers of any cap-era player in his position to make it that far in the playoffs.

You know where McDavid did get points? In Game 3. He had two. You know by how much the Oilers lost? One goal. You know what Skinner's save percentage was? An .826.

I'm not asking him to score in every game...0 points in 3 games is acceptable to you? this team is known for offense, they aren't built like the 1995 NJ Devils where winning games 2-1 is the norm

Asking for a goalie to stop more than 80-something percent of the shots he faces is not unreasonable...especially for four consecutive games. It's pretty much a bare minimum requirement to play in the league on a good team. Especially on a team that was allowing the fewest high danger chances in the playoffs...

They’re built like a shittier version of the Penguins without the goaltending.

No Cups yet is not a surprise.

And you know what stopped our team from scoring?. A good goalie.
they scored like 7goals in Game 4, 5 in Game 5 and 5 in Game 6...with the exact same goalie

you're right...neither is asking 2 of the most offensive players in the game over the past 5 seasons to eek out a point here and there in the most critical series of their lives

Yeah, because we should ask more from a guy who was scoring at a level only exceeded by Gretzky and Lemieux. Meanwhile, we should be extra forgiving of a goalie who has some of the worst playoff numbers of his entire era (worst save% to win a series, worst save% to make it to the Finals, worst GSAx).

Both McDavid and Skinner are massive era outliers for completely opposite reasons. McDavid is one of the very best at his position in the playoffs. Skinner is one of the very worst at his position for someone who made it that far. You blame the guy who is one of the very best to defend the guy who is one of the very worst.

Make that make sense. Please.

He won't. There is less than zero point arguing with this guy. He will continue to shit on Connor and Leon until the end of time to prop up the worst playoff goalie in the modern NHL. Save your time and energy.

hell yes we should.....I don't give a f*** if he had 80 points in the playoffs, he had 0 in Game 1, 2, 7
not acceptable
Draisaitl had no goals in the Finals and went goaless in the final 8 games...sure he was injured but so was everyone...how is that OK with you??

he gave up 3 goddamn goals in in Games 6 and 7....wtf more do you want? I swear some people expected back-to-back shutouts for some reason

Skinner faced 17 shots in Game 1. He only had to make 17 saves...that's it. He made 15. Bobrovsky faced almost double the amount of shots (32) and stopped them all. Is stopping 17 shots, especially behind a team that was giving up so few high-danger chances, really all that hard?

I can go on, but this is why we use things like statistics, so we don't have to write all of this shit out... You should try understanding them, it might do wonders for you!

The Oilers scored as much as I did in high school in game 1.

The laughable thing is that Bobrovsky gave up a howler in game 2 and the Oilers didn't take advantage (sound familiar?)

Skinner: I let them in faster than you can put them in!

Poor Oilers
I guess scoring just was too hard to the best players in the world
Must be nice to have a teams best players to their jobs

McDavid became the first non-goalie to win the Smythe on a losing team in almost 50 years, while scoring the most points of any player in a single postseason in 31 years, the fourth-most points ever recorded in a single postseason (literally only behind Wayne and Mario), and setting the all-time postseason assists record.

But he's more at fault here than the goalie with the worst save percentage of any cap-era goalie to win a series or make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
A goalie who had a save percentage in the .800s for the first three games of the Finals, with his worst performance being in a game where the player you just criticized set up two goals and the team only lost by one...with said goalie having an .826 performance.

Do you have a personal or familial relation to Mr. Skinner?

Cool story, but how did that help the team in Game 7? Did all those cool stats translate into goals in Game 1 and 2?
What’s your point here..he did his job getting there so he’s allowed to stop scoring?

It's not just secondary scoring.

McDavid is tied with Kulak and Perry in 5v5 points in the last 27 games.

He's 160th in the league in that span.
I’ve lost count. Is it now 12 or 13 games for McDavid without a 5v5 point. His lack of even strength production this year is alarming and probably not being talked about enough.

Can't say I agree with this. Most of the best goalies in the league are home grown. Nashville seems to churn them out with regularity. We've tried the recycling bin too many times and we always end up with trash.

Again, he's a solid backup. He's not starter material, and certainly won't be anywhere near a Vezina. Most of the goalies we've run through over the past decade have ended up in the dumpster heap as soon as they left the Oilers.

And let me clear, the team sucks at scouting period, not just goalies. Drafting, development, scouting... All of these things are integral to a championship team. It's why Tampa went back to back and the Oilers won't be sniffing anything anytime soon.
You can add Shesterkin, Sorokin, Vasilevskiy, Ottenger, Demko, Helly, and the list goes on of homegrown talent. Management seems to think Skinner is in this class and keeps shoving him down this fanbases throat.
It’s just maddening at this point.
