If we trade a first round pick + for Connor Murphy I might pass out. It could happen if things keep going the way they are going lol

Murphy at 50% ($2.2M cap hit next year) is one could argue for a cap tight/contender pretty great value

Similar albeit to the slightly larger McCabe deal to Leafs

McCabe (50%) + Lafferty for a 1st + 2nd

Deal has worked out great for Leafs and Hawks are happy with picks

Are you sure all of those moves will address the biggest 5 hole issue that needs to be filled?

I'm not sure if Blackwood is that guy Oilers want, especially not at that price. Add more and see who else can shake free.

I like Blackwood, I think he is an upgrade on Pickard but I don't see him as a big upgrade on Skinner. To me that seems like a lateral move.

The Oilers to my mind need an upgrade in:

1. Goal
2. Right side 2nd pairing
3. 3C
4. Scoring Winger top six

You watch more blackhawks hockey than I do, but is Murphy comparable to McCabe? McCabe brings a grit factor that I didn’t think was in Murphys game - but I stand to be corrected - are they the same level defender?

McCabe hits, blocks shots and can kill penalties

Pretty much same things you get from Murphy. Maybe not as physical as McCabe but Murphy is no flower. Throws some nice hits

Neither one does much offensively but that isn't their game. They are traditional SAH top 4 defenders

It would appear the Oilers are looking for a puck moving right shot defenseman. At least according to the local press.

It better be a shutdown/PK min eating D or I’ll lose my mind.

Connor Murphy would be ideal. He plays heavy PK mins on the right side. Something we lack after moving out Ceci and Desharnais. Bouchard doesn’t take PK time we need a RD that can take that role.

All of the local media, including Bob Stauffer (who we all know is the unofficial Oiler's mouthpiece when they want something leaked) have stated the Oilers are looking for another puck moving defenseman, preferably for the right side.

I understand, I'm just disagreeing with the teams view. I feel we need more a shutdown/pk guy. We need to strengthen the team in front of our goalies, not soo much in front of the oppositions. This has been my take for the entire off season. Wanted a RD upgrade, got a downgrade and Jeff Skinner. Feel the teams just refusing to address the teams biggest needs and hoping they will continue to out score the problems.

Those players aren't worth those picks. Be honest here.

A pending UFA goalie and a D you say isn't as good as Ceci. Good stuff.
Ferraro will either go for a first or stay a Shark. This has been well reported. Here's just one example.

"Ferraro was available during the 2023 NHL trade deadline, and the Sharks wanted a first-round pick and a prospect in exchange … and they almost got it." - Friedman on Trading Ferraro: ‘They will be able to get good assets for him’

I personally don't get it from watching the guy but NHL types really seem to love him.

It's no secret Edmonton badly needs two things: a goaltender who can stop a puck more than 88% of the time, and a top-four defenseman who knows where his end is. With Darnell Nurse's injury and Brett Kulak's strong play on his off-hand, it's become less important which side that defenseman plays, but it's still a major need no matter what if this team wants to contend.

It's also no secret San Jose and Chicago are heading for the lottery again while the Pens are about to join them for the first time in over 15 years. Any of these three trades would help the Oilers and I think they are all about the same value wise which is why the return is the same, but maybe I am wrong there.

To CHI- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Connor Murphy (50%), Arvid Soderblom

To SJS- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Mario Ferraro (50%), Mackenzie Blackwood (50%)
To 3rd Team- STL 2025 3rd (to retain on both Ferraro and Blackwood)

To PIT- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Marcus Pettersson (50%), Joel Blomqvist

Who says no among SJ/PIT/CHI
Are you serious man ?

This is what you came up with ? Mario Ferraro ?
Blomqvist ? These are no name bums who couldn't move grass on a bad team and the Oilers are going to give up the farm to get them ?

🤣

I wouldn’t call McCabe offensively gifted by any means but compared to the usual stay at home rentals like Edmundson he’s in a different league for moving the puck.
