It's no secret Edmonton badly needs two things: a goaltender who can stop a puck more than 88% of the time, and a top-four defenseman who knows where his end is. With Darnell Nurse's injury and Brett Kulak's strong play on his off-hand, it's become less important which side that defenseman plays, but it's still a major need no matter what if this team wants to contend.

It's also no secret San Jose and Chicago are heading for the lottery again while the Pens are about to join them for the first time in over 15 years. Any of these three trades would help the Oilers and I think they are all about the same value wise which is why the return is the same, but maybe I am wrong there.

To CHI- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Connor Murphy (50%), Arvid Soderblom

To SJS- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Mario Ferraro (50%), Mackenzie Blackwood (50%)
To 3rd Team- STL 2025 3rd (to retain on both Ferraro and Blackwood)

To PIT- Sam O'Reilly OR EDM 2026 1st, STL 2025 2nd, Troy Stecher OR Travis Dermott, Max Wanner OR Philip Kemp
To EDM- Marcus Pettersson (50%), Joel Blomqvist

Who says no among SJ/PIT/CHI?

I’d take the 2026 1st and 2025 2nd for Ferraro and Blackwood, but you’re not getting that much retention for a third party for a 3rd, particularly with Ferraro having another year. Maybe Blackwood and Ceci (who’s better than Ferraro) with someone picking up 50% each at the deadline would be doable.

Soderstream seems more like a prospect than an answer to the Oilers issues in net. Off to a good start this year (5 game sample size) but he’s a career 0.888/3.68 GAA in the NHL

Yeah, I think the Penguins say no. Unless you wanna change Blomqvist to Nedeljkovich.

Kyle Dubas is in attendance of tonight game. Wonder if he is scouting Montreal or Oilers? Rare when GM makes trip here to watch game his club not involved in.
He was at Montreal vs Buffalo with his AGMs not long ago. Wonder who he might be eyeing on Montreal.

Pitt likely a seller. Don't see the connection to us at all.

Update: listening to post game show. Dubas was there scouting for Team Canada. Which makes more sense

I stopped reading at the oilers trading their 2025 or 2026 pick. Due to conditions with that pick? Flyers may want two 2nd to allow the oilers to trade either pick.. For those tracking the conditions? Oilers traded their 2025 pick to the Flyers-Top 10 protected. As of right now the Flyers get the 2026 pick.

You're trading away the only assets the Oilers have for mediocre additions in most of these deals. I think every one of these trades is an overpay for the players coming back.

It does seem likely the Oilers could target Pettersson. I can't say I know much about Blomqvist.

I do think there is a basis for a deal around either Mrazek/Broussoit and Connor Murphy with the Hawks, with the return being about half of what was in the OP.
Murphy and Mrazek retained would probably fetch a decent amount. Maybe a 2026 1st and a conditional 3rd that turns into a 2nd.. Not sure if Chi would want to retain for two years but they would be full on tank mode once again if so. Edmonton could probably send back some salary like Brown or Pickard.

I think Murphy and Mrazek would defiantly shake things up a bit for Edmonton.

If we trade a first round pick + for Connor Murphy I might pass out. It could happen if things keep going the way they are going lol
Stan Bowman and Chicago connections is something to keep an eye on. During the Blackhawks cup runs he way overpaid to get players we all screamed about but ultimately helped win us cups

No from the Pens. Why is Blomqvist being treated as a throw-in? He’s the starter of the future and simply isn’t available
