Does anyone know the reasoning behind this 4 nation tournament? I get why Russia isn’t involved but what about the Czechs? Germany? Switzerland?
4 teams just doesn’t bring any real excitement, it feels like fake all star filler to me.
Seems a bit silly to have a Best on Best tourney and not include all the Best.

#FakeOlympics

Oh well, literally anything is better than an All Star Game. Or what we saw last year, the Get McDavid To Toronto Festival.

In a normal situation it probably would be a 6 country tourney (Czechs and Russia in), but with Russia out I guess an odd number of teams threw everything out of whack. Germany has Draisaitl and Stutzle and Seider but not much else.

Plus given that it has to be a short tourney (in mid-season) it's probably just better to go with the 4 teams that would have a shot at winning otherwise.

A goalie cant just hug the post on a 2 on 1. He has to try and anticipate the play that will be unfolding in front of him and thats exactly what he did.
Im not going to fault him for how things played out because that puck doesnt do what it ended up doing 99 times out of 100.
It was a flukey goal.
This isnt even close to being on the list of games to fault Skinner. This is an example of posters with an axe to grind who were frustrated by the result and projected that frustration on to a player they have been frustrated with in the past.

This Skinner glee club nonsense is a perfect example of that as well.
Posters on here looking at the game through an unfiltered lens get castigated for doing nothing other than being objective.
Ridiculous.

Maybe the team can score more than zero goals next time.
Vegas should've scored 0 goals as well. The pass was not going across, the goalscorer had no space to sauce it over.

It’s quite stupid to have this tourney mid season, it belongs in the off season with 8 countries. I miss blowing out the weak countries and facing the big Russian bear.
Oh well, I’ll still watch.

If not there, they could have scored when we let Hertl walk right into the slot and do anything he wanted to do with the puck going forehand backhand top corner on Stu.

I think players who could be on the bubble making the Olympic roster could tremendously help their cause with a strong tournament.

Or do you think the Olympic team is a lock?
I think it's about as close to a lock as you can get. The only variables being really young, high potential players. Bedard or Celebrini types. But there's not exactly a lot of those.

A goalie is always going to be second best when his team doesn't score any goals.

What the f*** even is this?

40 games over 2 seasons. Yes it is a small sample size. Let him play 50 games this year and see where he sits. We all know it won't happen, because over his career he's never shown to be a starter.
Well it could have been decided in overtime if he hadn't let in the softy. Zero zero games happen if you both have good goalies.

It wasn't anything close to top corner. It was a routine glove save put practically exactly in the position Skinners glove was in. Skinner "sold" the save as he always does by pulling the glove up as if he made a stupendous save. Turtle wasn't shaking his head because Skinner stoned him, its because he flat out blew the scoring chance putting it right in his glove. It was the only difficult save Skinner had to make the whole game.

Adin Hill had 20 saves as difficult, or more, as anything Skinner saw. The goal Skins let in wasn't even a scoring chance. he waffled that into an adventure. The next shot sailed by Skinner and fortunately hit the post.

The Oilers outchanced, outshot, outhustled the Knights and were all over them in their own zone spending most of the game there. But the Knights have a goalie.

I wish no ill will on anyone but if there is a serious injury to any teams’ star in this farce of an “international tournament”, then Gary gets what he deserves. It’s an absolute crap event. The best on best arent all involved.

What is it proving other than the NHL generates revenue no matter what crap they roll out?

Routine to let a forward walk into your slot and go forehand backhand as if he was on a breakaway? Nah.

Skinner was good overall this game and the team played well. If that went on for 7 games we'd win.

Eh. Skinner was average this game.

He let in 1 goal on 1.15 xGA, for a GSAx of 0.15. That's pretty pedestrian.

There are currently 36 goalies in the league that average more than 0.16 GSAx/60 right now.

Skinner is ranked 58th in that metric per 60 with -0.32.

I think it's the 4 countries with the highest percentage of players in the league. And it's meant to be a tune-up for the Olympics.

The NHL and PA recognized that due to a variety of circumstances the game, and the best players in the world were not on the international stage for a long period of time .

The entire tournament is a response to give players and the game some international exposure. Russia invading Ukraine tossed a wrench into the teams they were willing to involve, hence this bastardized event. Switzerland, Germany and others cant field a complete team with NHL contracted players. This event isnt IIHF sanctioned, so players on non NHL teams would, probably not be made available by their member federations and leagues.

The Oilers I believe are top 10 in the league for goals against since that ugly first 2 or 3 games where they were in full hangover mode from the summer EDIT: They're actually 13th best overall even with the terrible first three games now. Not bad.

So at least that is trending in a good way, they would be top 3-5 in the league possibly if they had one of the top 15-20 goalies in the league.

Knoblaugh has to learn to coach the offensive side of the ice.

I agree that Skinner has been bad this year. My opinion of him hasn't changed. We need to get a goalie to challenge him.

If Skinner was having a great year we would have been fine with him this game imo. It's just that he has a pattern of being awful when the chances get a little tough.

Oh, 100%.

If this was his average game you have no problem with his play this year.

The problem is this game was an example of his best this year, and it's frustrating that at his absolute peak he's still the second best goaltender.

And the Oilers don’t have scorers I guess
21st in the league is goals for is embarrassing

Thats your take and thats okay...we just disagree.
That loss was not on Skinner.

22nd overall in goals and cant score in a tight checking game...virtually ever.
The offence on this team is a big time fail so far this season.

They have higher 5 on 5 goals this year than last.

It's the PP that is basically the entire difference ... teams have scouted the Oilers PP and have taken away the McDavid to Hyman cross seam play, no one on the Oilers coaching staff seems to have any answer for what else to do.

That's basically your culprit.

Yup...especially for a team whose identity is offence.

You act like this team has tried a ton of goalies, lol, they don't, they just stick with guys even if they suck for years. Some how Mikko Koskinen was here for the full duration of his contract extension, how in the world does a team with Connor McDavid on it not try to be more proactive.

If the Oilers managed the Golden Knights, MAF would still be starting there at age 40, that would 100% be the extent of their plan in net.

? The stop was routine. jebus it was the only HDSC save Skinner had to make all night. Most goalies you don't even think about that stop. With Skinner you're praying to god he gets it. Vegas had negligible scoring chances in the game. Far less than Oilers got.
