So nerve wracking going up against the Oilers. Mcdavid can just turn it on and score goals at will.
The Oilers are a team who can clearly beat anyone if they're on their game. McDavid and Draisaitl are otherworldly talents, I'd say the top pairing in the world right now. Skinner has been very good in goal, and this is the definition of a dangerous team.

But Devils are deeper right now, and I'd say they have more collective speed throughout the line-up. Win or lose, I'd say it's pretty nice to look at a full schedule of NHL games and be able to say non-partially that the Devils match-up is the best game of the night. Similarly, win or lose, after this game the Devils deserve a standing ovation at The Rock.

yeah, its just annoying that the Devils could probably play a perfect game but could still lose just because of those two Edmonton players.

Thats not how Hockey is suppose to work!:(

Streak has every game feeling like a must win when we couldn't be further from that.

Still only two wins away from history. Really want to see them do it

I don't want them to peak this early in the season, and hit a rocky stretch later. Rather get hot right before the playoffs.

But for now, I'm not going to worry about that, I'll just enjoy the ride and hope they can keep it going.

Perhaps you haven't been watching hockey that long but its always been a team game where star power helps but doesn't usually win games like it does in Basketball and Football.
I think that football is more of a team game than hockey. If a hockey team does things correctly, they can just grind the other team to a standstill and then hope their couple of game breakers can score on the chances they get. That system worked for NJ in 2018. In football if you don't get line play your QB RB and DBs will almost certainly struggle. And basketball isn't a game. It's a sports spectacle in much the same way pro wrestling is where you have storylines and drama and then the refs decide which team will actually win the game rather than the players. That said I'll have all three boys at the local NBA game tonight so I'll miss the Devils game. To be fair, I'd go to just about any event if it gets all three of them together in one place.

Hockey star power has less time to influence the game though. The football offense and defense plays for around half the game, maybe more or less depending on possession time, etc. And often the better they are, the less time they'll spend on the field, because they score quickly or get a stop quickly.

But in hockey, even your best forwards are only playing a little more than a third of the game, your best defenseman still under half. Only a goalie can give you star performance for the full 60 minutes. So if your depth lines and pairings aren't capable, they will get exposed.

Hell, you could argue that's exactly what happens with the Oilers.

Good point about the time issue. In today's world, I think a QB is the biggest star for an NFL team. Assuming a normal game, the QB probably plays about 45% of the snaps. 50% are defense and another 5% are special teams. Still, you are correct that a forward only plays about 20 minutes. I guess a better comparison would be a dominant defender and a QB? it's an interesting question. The only truth is that the NBA is a scam. Their refs make the NFL refs look good. NHL refs aren't great but with game management they are at least predictable.

Sure if you compare it to those two sports, but in any team sport a hot star player can carry his team (to an extent at least). Just like Hall did in his MVP year

Ya, I'm pretty sure Donaghy was the fall guy, and they still haven't rooted out the problem with NBA refs.

Last change and no Evander Kane should help us this time around. Let's keep it rolling!
