Rumor: Oilers Daily - "McDavid extension incoming"

No shit. Of course I watched. No one likes losing in the final.

That’s my point. He’s sick of losing. I don’t think anyone wants to win more than he does. 2nd place is still losing

I’m not saying he can’t win in Edmonton. Nor am I saying he wants to leave. My original point is that he may be sending a message to management

Also he may never get to the cup final again and he knows these chances don’t come around often.

Teams have short windows

Cap is going up so much that the Frederic contract won’t have any impact on whether or not they’re competitive
In the long run, sure, but at the moment, it absolutely does. They have $11 million in cap -$4ish for Frederic which would leave them $7 million to pay or replace Bouchard, Klingberg, Perry, Skinner, Brown, and Kapanen. That really hurts the depth unless you can make a number of trades to move money out.

The management is essentially chosen by McD.

Jackson is a pure McDavid hiring, and Jackson then hired Bowman...then you add his buddies like Nurse, Brown, Drai, Bouch have or are going to get max dollars (no discounts) because of their friendship.

It's all on McDavid trying to be GM also.

To be fair, Oilers have been winning more than losing

Would be funny if Bowman leaked the Frederic signing to gauge fan reaction and McDavid saw the noise. I’d be fuming if my GM signed Frederic 48 hours after losing the finals to 8 years lmao

They try hard to become a reliable source to state something that is highly likely to happen. I could probably put the same thing out on X. Doesn’t make me a good source.

Still think it's too early of a question to ask to someone.

Clearly, he's taken the last two years hard. But I'd have to assume he knows he's in a very good position with the Oilers to make the dance. To me, the bigger question is will he want to take a "discount" or just try to get the most AAV he can?

If he wants to win, I'd assume he won't go for the max, but at the same time I'm sure he wants assurances from the FO that they do a better job of building the team around him and not squandering cap on mid players. Probably why he's in no rush to re-sign, potentially.

I wouldn't say he's outright gone yet, but that statement very much felt like a "get me and Leon some help or i'm out" type of thing. Which i think most Oilers fans would probably agree with.

I still think he ends up signing. There's no reason for him to sign right on July 1st given he has a year left. Just wait, see if the team makes a serious attempt to improve the guys around you and then go from there. It would behoove McDavid to understand that if he's serious about winning, it will probably require a slight tempering of contract demands. He could probably get close to 20 on the open market with cap increases,

If i were GM of that team i think my big move would be try to clear the way for a Gavrikov signing. Give them a legitimate shutdown top pairing guy but then you'd either have to trade Bouchard or find someone stupid enough to convince trading for Nurse. And then somehow move out additional salary to do something about your goalie situation.

Will probaly do what Matthews took. 4 years then his play takes a serious decline as he will no longer be in his prime. And if he still wants a cup, he can take the Ray Bourque route.
