provides some speed at least
Yup.
Last season the team at forward had McDavid, McLeod, Foegele and Holloway as players who could pressure the opposition D with speed on the rush.
This year the team has McDavid.

More team speed should help although Kapanen has been brutal for the Blues.
His ice time has been declining since he got to St Louis in 2022/23 and this season it reached a career low for him at just over 11 minutes.
Maybe a change of scenery will help.

At least he can be used on the PK.

lol. Was wondering about a few of the plays. Just botching plays all over. Without Perry Drai was getting nothing. Pods does make the occasional good pass but nothing near warranting being in the lineup.
I know you were hoping for Connor Brown.....stay tuned, its a long season.

Imagine working your tail off then showing up looking good for the most part in the NHL> Then getting sent down so old farts can take your spot

I am going to go to the Blues board. That's always the best way to judge who we got

EDIT - I can't find anything about hi there lol
That’s because he’s been largely ineffective.

This is just a throw a dart at the board move and see if it sticks.

Maybe they hope that Kaspari understands his NHL chances are dwindling so he’ll start putting in the work (not likely but one can dream).

Could just be a stop gap while they’re on the road imo.
Hopefully this results in a 12/6 lineup tonite.
If he adds anything points or pk wise is a bonus.

Disagree, Philip had a good 1st game, mediocre second game and a total non-factor 3rd game.

Basically a non-physical version of Podkolzin.
Feel bad for Draisaitl, because you know they're going put Kapanen with him.

DKP line will be marvellous

Which is better than 20 non factor games from Ryan lol

When guys want 14M and MDavid probably 16M, I see no harm in throwing 1 good player with them and one meh player to try to get them going or pump and dumps

That's what Crosby did. You want all of that $$, don't expect high paid superstars to play alongside both wings

Now do I trust our pro scouts to find these gems though? Nope

Wanted to take a flyer on this guy a couple time in the last 8 years. But other teams did that instead and have moved on from the player. Not expecting much from Kapanen at this point, sounds like he could be close to done.

If Kapanen can recover his form from his Pitts and Toronto days he can be a very useful player.

He has McLeod level speed so I do really like that. He just has to rediscover who he is as a player.
He is only 28 years old too so thats a positive as well.

I look at this in a similar light to going from Desharnais to Josh Brown, they were like we want some of the size and physicality that Desharnais brought, without a care as to whether or not he could actually play hockey.

This is a similar response to losing speed in Holloway and McLeod, Kapanen skates fast and does nothing else. The only selling point is he was a pretty good hockey player 3 years ago, which isn't something J. Brown can say, but I'm highly skeptical he can find that level again.

Hopefully Kapanen takes this opportunity for all it is worth, cause if we waive him I'm doubtful he'll ever skate in an NHL rink again.

At least with Philp there is some runway left but obviously Ryan is nearing the end--good soldier--well liked in the dressing room---but for every Ovechkin over 35 years of age there are a dozen guys who should be thinking of coaching careers.

Does this mean Arvidsson is hurt long term?
Given we've gone 11 and 7 the last few days, that was my reaction too. Essentially: (i) Arvidsson will be out a while longer; and (ii) Josh Brown proved how incredibly useless he is, so 11 and 7 is out the window.

No specific comment re Kappenen here but wondering about our pro scouting. When Jackson renovated our scouting and analytics capacity, it was assumed this would lead to more astute, insightful scouting.
Recognizing that we got Skinner, Arvidsson, Pod, and Brown in the first wave of newcomers, it was thought that the experts were still in their early settling in phase and didn’t have a chance for full due diligence.
Then came Dermott, Stecher and Emberson….two of three isn’t bad.
Now, if Kappenen is here specifically to fill in for Arvidsson, it looks like a perfect match…don’t expect much, don’t get much…but faster.
If he’s here to upgrade our bottom six, it seems we’re back to dumpster diving as a means of filling roster spots…no obvious reason to claim him and no safe bet that he will surprise us.
This isn’t making a weak roster stronger….shouldn’t that be our goal?

Fast skater but doesn't provide much else. Mediocre offensively, worse defensively. Don't know where he slots in.
I said in a previous thread that in Toronto he was actually solid defensively. I have not really followed him since he was in TO but he was used a lot on the pk last year. If I was to compare him to someone I'd say that he is similar to McLeod in that his game is driven by speed and he uses it very well in some aspects of the game but lacks a strong competitive drive.
