The whole team refused to chase McDavid tonight. I don't think you can put that on MacK. I might be off base here, but from what I saw, it looked like the game plan was to chase and pressure Dri, while letting McDavid carry the puck around and get in his passing and shooting lanes.
I too guessed that was the coaches game plan. It could have been changed at any point in the game. But it wasn't.

Players do what they are told to do on this team (With 1 or 3 exceptions.)

I might need to take a break from watching Avs games, they’re just making me mad and I’m not even entertained. Team looks like they don’t care, Bednar is just there - may as well just leave a cardboard cutout, this is just bad
Feel the same exact way. Been the first season since I became a fan where I'm not looking forward to games like I used to. Hard to explain, but it is what it is

Yep. Though he’s obviously not alone there.

Where to begin?

MacKinnon went to sleep after those two goals. Total floater in the defensive zone.

Makar not hitting anything with his shot.

The 44-49 pairing. I noticed that pairing saw one more shift in the third, that was it. I don’t know how many more f***ing times Bednar is going to put them out there before he gets it.

And obviously, THAT pairing saw a shift because of another moronic turnover by Middleton. Dude has no business on NHL ice. Period.

And of course…the power play. The Avs are damn lucky the Oilers power play wasn’t clicking either, though it looked far better.

Lastly, he was more than a little overwhelmed and outclassed by the opposition but even keeping that in mind…absolutely disastrous game by Kiviranta. Can’t turn the puck over like that, tired or not. Not to mention the Oilers were just walking around him every shift.

I actually didn’t think Mittelstadt looked horrid. Still not good enough by a long shot but…better. I’m reaching for a silver lining here.
Mitts was better tonight. Not good enough nor what this team needs right now. But at least he's trying. Being in Bednar's dog house is having a positive effect.

Avs D is in a bad way. Makar was not dominant, he was domineered. Definitely laboring tonight. Manson was terrible. First EDM goal was definitely on him. Having to play Middleton, DeHaan regularly is bad voodoo.

Middleton is NHL qualified. But he's at best a 6-7 player on a last place team.

Did y'all notice the line up match on the 4th EDM goal? Wasn't it a 5 on 5 goal scored. McDavid/Draisailt vs what Kelly and company?

I thought the home team had last change?. (But I admit that I don't recall who was on the ice the previous shift.)

I want Byram back. He's playing so much better for the Sabres these days.

I’ve always thought that Makar is at his best when he’s just going full tilt, but he can’t do that when he’s playing so many minutes and that PK time as well. He’s a hypercar, but Bednar’s playing him like an everyday beater

If Mack doesn’t score two goals this game isn’t close.

That’s an absurd judgment of a player, especially one like Mack.
Again, he had two great rush plays in the 1st period. After that he was awful like the 17 other skaters not named Logan O'Connor.

He is the supposed 2nd best forward in the world, that comes with the requisite criticism when you don't play like it. He spent the entire game chasing after McDavid and Draisaitl from the 10 minute mark in the 1st onward and had zero answers for them. Ditto Cale Makar.

The Oilers best players came to play tonight, and the rest of their team followed suit. The Avs top players seemingly packed 'er in after the 3-0 goal and the rest of the team followed suit.
I really don't see MacK in Makar moving away from Bednar's game plan on their own. MacK can be a hot head, but I've never once her to coach bad mouth his work ethic or on ice demeanor.
Whatever it was tonight, it was brutal.

Contenders @ Pretenders 4:3.....

The Pretenders blew a 3-goal-lead against the contenders playing on the 2nd night of a B2B......

Edmonton is one of the favs for the cup....and we are not.

Simple as that.
Truth. The Oilers will be to get past Winnipeg 1st though.

The Avs will need a major transfusion of energy, hunger and talent to get through even the 1st round much less 2. This roster has too many holes and coasters.

I turned the game off as soon as Bouchard scored. I never do that, but the way they've been playing since the Scott Wedgewood trade is a travesty.

They are so frustrating to watch, and I'd rather not ruin my day getting upset over things I can't control so I've been watching less and less lately because they clearly don't see to be getting out of this two month long funk they've been in anytime soon.

I feel like what the Avs really need is a change in their system. They are good off the rush but horrendous at sustaining pressure

True. But there's not much else Bednar can do given his bottom 3 defensemen.

They aren't even a playoff team. They are lazy, no complete, no drive, nothing. It's a joke.

Injuries, blah, blah, blah. This team is never healthy so who f***ing cares.

Fire Bednar. Trade 96 and maybe you have a chance.

"no compete"

But I agree they are not complete either.

Shameful after going to such lengths to fix the awful goaltending.

I have zero expectations that Bednar will be fired.
