Kiviranta with a horrible turnover for their 2nd goal and stopped skating - literally you can see in real time him give up - on their 3rd goal.

It's why Kivi is a 12/13 forward. Yet on this team he's playing as a 3rd line tweener who gets occasional 2nd line time.

It's brutal.
I'm constantly told we don't need depth, that we instead need a 14M winger while we already have 2 superstars.

The concerning thing is last game they were pissed off about how they played then came out tonight against a team on the 2nd half of a back to back and showed up for a whole 12-15 minutes.

They didn’t lose because of the PP but the PP is an absolute problem and it bothers me that Bednar apparently isn’t concerned in the slightest

Yep. Though he’s obviously not alone there.

Where to begin?

MacKinnon went to sleep after those two goals. Total floater in the defensive zone.

Makar not hitting anything with his shot.

The 44-49 pairing. I noticed that pairing saw one more shift in the third, that was it. I don’t know how many more f***ing times Bednar is going to put them out there before he gets it.

And obviously, THAT pairing saw a shift because of another moronic turnover by Middleton. Dude has no business on NHL ice. Period.

And of course…the power play. The Avs are damn lucky the Oilers power play wasn’t clicking either, though it looked far better.

Lastly, he was more than a little overwhelmed and outclassed by the opposition but even keeping that in mind…absolutely disastrous game by Kiviranta. Can’t turn the puck over like that, tired or not. Not to mention the Oilers were just walking around him every shift.

I actually didn’t think Mittelstadt looked horrid. Still not good enough by a long shot but…better. I’m reaching for a silver lining here.
Lol, ripping guy who scored two and hit two posts. He was one of the only guys that looked like they gave a shit. His play was fine tonight.

Makar, Mikko, Toews, Lehky, Drouin not good enough.
Manson was awful.
De Haan and Middleton are what they are.
LOC was very good. Mack could have had 4 goals.
Kiwi did his best.
Mitts, Parsinen, Innala, Colton, Polin, Kelly a whole lot of nothing.
Blackwood was fine but we needed him to be superhuman, again.

29 played well, it's garbage to say otherwise. It was Blackwood, MacK and LOC. Everyone else was utter garbage.
Nathan MacKinnon absolutely did not play well. He had a great couple of shifts in the 1st. Otherwise? Awful.

He couldn't be bothered to defend tonight. Just skating around aimlessly while McDavid and Draisaitl dominated him in our zone.

Look at how MacKinnon scored and hit the post tonight. Rush, rush, and rush again.

The Oilers scored 1 goal off the rush. The other three goals were because of extended zone time dunking on the Avs. It was brutal and 29 did nothing to stop it.

We don't NEED depth but we do need health and it just isn't coming nor do I think we get it all year.

The Avs also didn't count on Mittelstadt turning into a pumpkin and looking like an AHLer.

When healthy, the team needs a 3rd line winger and that's it.

We just won't see health, but you can't buy depth against the cap.

The whole team refused to chase McDavid tonight. I don't think you can put that on MacK. I might be off base here, but from what I saw, it looked like the game plan was to chase and pressure Dri, while letting McDavid carry the puck around and get in his passing and shooting lanes.

Girard-Manson caved in unlike ever seen before.

The whole chart had to be shifted to account for how bad they were.

MacKinnon is the superstar. He plays against McDavid. He and Makar both let McDavid and Draisaitl do whatever they damn well pleased tonight.

It was a pathetic effort. At some point your insticts have to kick in and you have to realize what you're doing ain't working. The Avs didn't realize this all night. They kept letting the Oilers skate around at will.

If the Avs threw 5 hits tonight I'd be shocked.

I think the depth is fine, this team needs several other things though.

1. Nuke and Wood to get healthy
2. Mitts to pull his head out of his ass
3. A #4-5 D-man
4. The coaching staff to quit being stubborn and try something different, especially on the PP

The team doesn't need forwards. It needs a whole very solid third pairing.

Hahaha because 29 was the only reason we got stuck in our own end.... You realize there are 17 other guys that could do something about this right???

It's not 29s main responsibility to play defense. His job is to score. He did that just fine. It's 8 and 7s job to make sure McDavid doesn't dominate, they sucked at that. Where's the hate there?

Let's continue to shit on the guy who kept us in the game. But not mention the shit ass games by 96, 8, 7, 62, 27 etc. 29 and 25 were the best players by a country mile. Everyone else was trash garbage.

If Mack doesn’t score two goals this game isn’t close.

That’s an absurd judgment of a player, especially one like Mack.

I really don't see MacK in Makar moving away from Bednar's game plan on their own. MacK can be a hot head, but I've never once her to coach bad mouth his work ethic or on ice demeanor.

Well deserved loss all things considered. Especially in the 2nd they got schooled and were running around like headless chickens. Pretty concerning stuff when you keep in mind that Nuke is pretty much the only impact player who's missing right now.

Let's see if they can turn the corner at some point. Dallas is next, this could be "fun" :help:
