The goaltending thing should not be this complicated. The Oilers clearly don't have a "#1 goaltender" who's going to consistently bring it against top teams. Therefore, there are basically two ways to go (choose one or the other):
1) Rotate starts (41 starts for each guy)
2) Play the guy who's hot until he's not
I don't understand this mentality of the coaching staff (?) that Stu Skinner has to be the top guy. He wasn't supposed to be the top guy when they signed Jack Campbell, so why are they so determined to make him so, now?
Is it just a money thing? Like, they signed him so now they have to play him all the time? Or is the org just afraid of looking like idiots, as in: "We wasted 10 million (or whatever) on Campbell, and then signed Skinner, but actually the whole time we had a guy in the AHL (Pickard) who's probably better than either of them... and we had no idea he was any good!" I wonder if they just don't want to admit it.
Since mid-November, the Rangers are 22-24-5, which is bad. So, the Oilers in theory should be able to beat them if motivated and rested. But we can't expect anything normal with this club...
