It's a nice turnaround. Curious if they can keep it up?

How were they so terrible to start the season anyway?

It made no sense to me at the time. I know Campbell sucked and McDavid got hurt, but why were they such a trainwreck? They should make the playoffs pretty comfortably now.

Sure just in time to be nice and worn out come playoff time. :sarcasm::laugh:
Very possible and, if (still a big if) we make it, our first round opponent will be brutal.

As far as I can tell, the plan is to play Skinner 90% of the time and that is a bad plan. Still need more D as I really hope the plan isn't to play a team like Vegas with the same D core.lol

It could be interesting, we need to string some wins together and hopefully Cassidy has gotten bored of the notion that "I can turtle games, I can turtle a season"

Campbell/Skinner shitting themselves, Ekholm nagging injury, McDavid banged up, Woodcroft tried to reinvent the wheel, team confidence in the dumps after getting lit up by the Canucks early on… if they make the playoffs, I feel the early adversity is a blessing in disguise.

I'll add.lol My fav Oiler Bouch was terrible. McLeod couldn't finish either despite playing great.

To my eye.. McLeod is now killing it. Bouch, who will never be Rod Langway, has totally cleaned up his end.. I haven't seen twitter light up with a Bouch being clowned for a few months now.lol

Largely puck luck / PDO. By the fancies we've been a top 5 team all year.

But we had .860 goaltending and a 6% shooting percentage... And that's not a recipe for success when the other team scores every 7 shots and you score every 17 shots.

Goaltending still suspect, although I hope it settles at better than .900, but this team in particular was never going to have such a low shooting percentage for long. That said both were horribly underperforming for sure.

I'd be interested to know how much of this was actually Woodcroft. He took them pretty far last season. Assuming they didn't have the injuries they had to start the season, would woodcroft still have a job? And would they be in a playoff spot? Or was he more of a contributing factor to the early season slump than any of the others?

I think Knoblauch has made a clear large difference in how the team is playing. Notably our transition play is a lot better.

Honestly though, biggest difference I think is that Coffey has the D playing 10x better than Manson did. Almost night and day in terms of confidence, decision making, and poise.

At this stage the only goal should be winning it all. That means you need to be prepared to beat anyone you face, first round, second round...it should not matter. At their very best the Oilers can beat any team in the league in a 7 games series. But they can also lose to any team they face in the playoffs. So it all depends on which version of the team shows up.

They need to make some trades.. we are good and we can outscore in regular season but our D and G positions are not stable to my eye. Need another solid RHD. Need a goalie to tandem with Stu. Our February schedule is brutal.. . hoping they've addressed this by then!

Have a chance to compete for the division if they keep it up too.

10 points behind Vegas with 4 games in hand, 12 points behind Vancouver with 3 games in hand, 5 points behind the Kings with 1 more game played.

I am not suggesting that they are a lock by any stretch. Rather I am suggesting that at this stage they should not care who they play when. They need to take every opponent seriously but play with confidence. And yes do need to find ways to improve the line-up. But in the current NHL I am not sure there is any team that this does not apply to.

As to the February schedule...I don't see it as that bad. Only 5 of 12 games vs teams with a better current winning percentage. And three of those games are with Vegas and the Kings two teams that they tend to play very well against. The other tow are Boston, a team that is now playing a lot more like the team that lost key players than last year's juggernaut. Dallas is the only team they play in February that always seems to have their number. If they play as they are now they should be able to win 7 of the 12 games at the least.

You can't win with a goalie that sucks then you take out the best player in the world.

What happened? I honestly thought your Sens would be a very good team and maybe even a cup contender. I loved the looks of the roster.

No clue, but they suck.

They’ve given up 4+ goals in every loss since Nov 2 aside from last night when they gave up 3.

That’s the most glaring symptom.
