We're making a huge mistake going into next season with assumptions that players like Rattie and Aberg will keep this up. Need improvements on those players, but they should both be back ready to battle in training camp.

Would like us to sign/trade for one top6 winger and invite some good cheap UFAs to training camp ala Versteeg in 2016-17

No arguments there. He's got Horcoff hands around the net. But like I said, if he's burying those opportunities, he's a $5m player. I like having him in that 3 spot.
I actually want him extended because I really think his next 3 seasons will be his career best ones, I put him in the line of players that start looking around and say to themselves I dominated alot of these guys in Junior and they pick up their game and play with a lot more confidence . this happened with 2 other 2011 picks this year in Couturier and Huberdeau , those 2 also started in the league a season earlier than Strome as well . I can see Strome realising this as well , 3 years at 3.33 per is a safe bet imo with him

It's kinda funny that Ty Rattie might get himself an NHL contract for next season because Pontus Aberg slept in for practice one day, lol.

Lol for some reasons reminds me of Steve McIntyre and Luke Gazdic a few years back.

IIRC Gazdic injured McIntyre in the preseason and when he didnt make the Stars the Oilers claimed him to fill what wouldve been McIntyres role. And Gazdic rolled with it haha.

Maybe, but we have slapshot!

That's true. It's not quite as goofy (read: insane, like 'Airplane,' 'Naked Gun,' 'Hot Shots!') as I typically like my comedies, but it's still very good and still...pretty insane at times, lol.

Nice game, great to see McD to get a 4 pt night and squeeze Kucherov who sure doesn't deserve to be on top of the scoring race. Would be an abomination if Kucherov won. His results are much more team dependent than any of the top guys in the running. Plus you get 10 more pts just playing in the EC all season.

Nuge supporting offense very well and nice to see him having this kind of fun again. Rattie looked good.

Can we play all our games against the EC next season? Please? We'd rip this teams apart week after week.

I think Connor would get 125 pt seasons playing in the weak ass EC. These clubs are just disgustingly bad.

Vanek at 3M is the 2LW for Drai.

Green at 5-6M also addresses our PMD and PP specialist

They should be trying:
RNH - McDavid
Draitsaitl - Pulju
Lucic - Strome

To see if Drai and Pulju work together. Drai is going to need help though like you said.

If Vanek is the best we can do ...

RNH - McDavid - XXX (Rattie potentially)
Vanek - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi/Aberg
Lucic - Strome - Aberg/Puljujarvi
Caggiula - Khaira - Kassian

The second line all speak European so thats a big, big bonus.

I could potentially see someone like Jannik Hansen being signed (IF he still has the speed he did on the Nucks. havent paid too much attention to him since) Familiarity in the Pacific, smart, excellent 2-way game and one of the best Pkers in the league. Could be cheap under 1-2 million signing, as I think his time is up in SJS.

My blueprint for next season team would look like this;

RNH-Mcdavid-xxx
xxx-Draisaitl-JP
Lucic-Strome-xxx
xxx-Khaira-xxx

You have pairs set up for each line with the plug and play wingers being Yamamoto and Benson(both preferably start in the AHL, Rattie, Aberg, Caggiula, Kassian, and Slepyshev(if he's back). With these 3 duo's we shouldn't need a big winger acquisition. We could target cheaper players like Athanasiou, Ryan, Calvert, Maroon, Wingels and Grabner.

On defence the blueprint should be;

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-xxx
Sekera-Russel

The target has to be Green. Carlson would be to expensive and it would only cost money to sign Green. Bear would start in the AHL but would be the first callup option.

He finally does what people have been saying on here for months and it works out beautifully,
Nuge with McDavid
Lucic with a lesser role while struggling.
still... no JP pp time and no top 6 minutes, why?
Wonder what could have been if he was not so stubborn.

I'd like to get Green, but I dunno. I think 6 mill is about the max we can offer him which I think he'll be able to get from other teams. His wife is American too so I dunno if she'd prefer to stay in the US closer to her family or what but that tends to be a challenge.

I'm hoping that Strome can hit 40 points playing mostly 3rd line minutes. At least it will make the trade seem less lopsided.

I agree.
If Strome can get to 40+ points and do it consistently (as a centre) then the deal really isnt bad at all...assuming of course that Chia puts the cap space to good use.

Aberg is quietly starting to look good out there after a bit of a meh start here. I like his speed and tenacious forechecking, and he seems to understand the game defensively. Hope he can keep it up because he's looked like a nice middle 6 winger lately, while adding more speed to the lineup.

Also props to Rattie for making the most of his opportunity with McDavid. No idea if that will continue, but I'm also really loving McDavid with Nuge. Two great sticks/puck thiefs on the same line, and its a treat to watch them with their elusive sublime passing with one another.

Rattie probably earned a contract just based on this stretch he’s having with Connor and Nuge.

Wouldn’t mind him for another season but really hope we load up and acquire a few wingers and make our young players force our hand.

Ideally, Rattie, Aberg and even Caggiula should all be fighting for a spot on this roster next season.

Connor McDavid has his wingers. No need for Hoffman.
Speaking about Hoffman, I love how he didn't bother defending Connor's 4th point.
I'm really happy with what that line has been able to accomplish and it's amazing how well and how quickly Rattie adjusted into a role to be an active contributor on the line, but be careful of small sample sizes and all that. Don't want a repeat of this year with being hopeful multiple players can hold down certain roles, we need a few more sure bets and while some young players may play their way into prominent roles it should be more of a dog fight.

Aberg looked a lot like William Nylander to me tonight. Very dynamic, hope he keeps this up.
You might need to get your eyes checked, he played well, but the skill difference between the two is rather immense. I'm hopeful he can continue to play well, but skeptical that this is just his immediate response to having a strip torn off him for missing practice, but might not have the focus and dedication to uphold this level of play.

We've taken advantage of 2 really bad teams in a row, best not to get too high, about better recent play till we face a stiffer challenge.

McDavid and Nuge are so good together...I'm fully expecting Chia to **** this up in the offseason by trading Nuge for "cap space"
If he does I'm sure the excuse will be he needed to sign Nurse to a fat contract, from the sounds of it his only 3 core pieces he 100% wants to keep are McDavid, Drai, and Nurse.

Nice win but I don't think you can draw much conclusions from the play of players this late in the season when the playoffs is out of the picture. Many guys go on streaks late in the season and then are completely ineffective come fall. So while it's nice to see guys like Åberg and Rattie producing and playing well, you can't pencil those guys in for next year. This team still needs to add quality wingers.

Green lives in Calgary in the offseason from what I hear. I don't think that would be a problem unless he actually doesn't.

With the Oilers cap situation Rattie so far is exactly what you'd hope to see, that other good teams have.
A low paid guy who find chemistry with the star.

We've all seen that you just can't throw anyone on the ice with McDavid and have it work. If RNH and Rattie play well with McDavid through to the end of the year, I'd think you have to pencil them in together for next year no matter who the coach is.

players get chemistry you HAVE to run with it, and it will pay off for the oilers down the road to have Drai lead his own line

It's perfect because they can't afford anyone else, it's just 1 game but he was very effective.
