I broke my foot as a kid and remember not being able to even put it down on the ground. Times have changed with the painkillers I guess.
That really sucks having something like that as a kid. Would've put you out of commission of doing everything a kid wants to be doing. Hopefully it wasn't summertime. I've been fortunate to have never had a summer injury. All mind have happened in winter except being hit by vehicles as a cyclist.

Yeah todays painkillers are wild but to such a degree that you really risk profound injuries taking them. Pain is a great reminder of injury. Which allows the injury to heal. Take painkillers and people continue with the same activity that got them injured. Did you fall out of a tree or something like that?

The biggest thing for me is how little their fans care. Their attendance was as bad as you could get for years, and their cup parade was a farce. It sucks seeing teams with passionate fans (not just us) suffer while they succeed
I'd mentioned earlier in the playoffs having a complete post season through non traditional hockey markets, it kind of lacks usual intensity in fandom. We haven't had fervent rivalry in ANY of the series. Another aspect is all the original 6 markets are in Eastern Conference, meaning we wouldn't ever go through any of them at all. So that we get a lot of odd matchups in Western Conference.

Really want to see it back to interlocking playoffs. 1 vs 16 and so on like it was when Oilers entered league. I find that more compelling.

We're playing very good teams but very poor hockey markets. Theres a sense of disappointment with that. I despise as well that the last two times we've been in Final its been against Bettman down south teams, Carolina, and Florida.

Last time I was in Florida (a few years ago) people talked about Nascar racing the whole time--nobody mentioned the NHL to me.
Turds have about 5K loyal fans, and they have been there since the beginning. I was in the rink for several games in the early 2000’s and that was all that was there. Obviously from the Atlantic coast and Northeast US. Oh, and when their “fans” traveled to Tampa, it was a drunk S Show of massive proportions. Classy drunken brawls on the concourses.

Panthers absolutely punished the eastern conference with their forechecking on opposing team's defense, Edmonton might have the best puck moving defense in these playoffs to counter it though. Mildly concerned about the Nurse pairing and whatever lefty they put on it, as that could become a major liability pulling off quick and effective puck movement out of the zone, they were already getting caught by the Stars in game 5 who aren't near as dangerous.

Also hope that Panther's pick-game on opposing forecheckers don't become too much of a problem, it's crazy the amount of obstruction and interference they were getting away with leading up to the finals.
Obstruction and interference has won more cups than any individual team. Call the damn stuff. Vegas and LA tried that shit and we womped them anyway. They need to call Florida on it period.

I've had similar arguments with a friend of mine from England. The concept of playoffs utterly baffles him, just like the concept of just handing the Cup to first place team at the end of the year baffles us.

I don't know how you would even derive enjoyment from their system especially if you're really good. "This has been telegraphed since about January and has rendered almost every game for half of the season in the whole league irrelevant, but now that April is over you're STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!"

I can feel my buzz dying just thinking about it.
The Brier used to be like that. Then they discovered people want to see playoffs.

If you are responsible defensively and trust all 4 lines then why the hell counter with anything? Lol knob head says he is comfortable putting anyone of his 4 lines against any opponents lines
Yes, I'm aware. I should have phrased my question better. My question is who do you think the players will be that is tasked with facing that challenge? Do you think it'll be Brown - Henrique - Frederic? Is that third line good enough to take on the Marchand third line?

Man all I keep thinking about is burning that Panthers team on their stupid 24/7 dump ins. TO took them to 7 and they don't even have great puck moving dmen. Also helped that Bob looked like a sieve for the first 2 games I guess.
they're probably some things to learn from that Leaf-Panthers series...the Leafs were up 2-0 in the series and 3-1 in Game 3 before the wheels fell off
(outside of Bob not being great)

Actually it was a summer one. We were playing pickup tackle football and I was running. Someone accidentally stepped on my foot precisely as I was taking off on it as a stride. Could hear it crack actually. As I say, I suppose there are different types of "fractures" but I had crutches for weeks and wouldn't have been able to walk across the street on it. I can't imagine trying to keep up with McDavid unless it was a completely different type of break.

Something to think about is winning a division now involves beating out more clubs than used to be just in the 6 team NHL. Winning a conference final now is akin to what winning a cup was in 16 team NHL.

With 32 teams now winning conference, with 16 teams in each conference is no walk in the park. Takes 3 round wins to do it. Even the players put the hat on. Its not nothing.
Agreed completely. This notion that being a WC champ means nothing without that Cup is old hat. Our team has been the best team in the West two years in a row, that in itself if legacy even if we don’t win the Cup. Or at least more people should view it that way.

Another one bites the dust.

Flames
Canucks
Stars

Probably the Kings and Vegas too.

Well if Jim Nill was stupid enough to think that adding Ceci and career AHLer Petrovic was enough to improve his team, then he's probably stupid enough to trade the only player he had who was even somewhat of a threat to us.

I believe there is more depth to this then simply winning the league is like winning the Stanley Cup, since there are multiple levels of leagues and they have relegation in the EFL. So basically if you are last you drop down a league, so the leagues do not reward tanking.

If you win, you not only win the league but you get promoted to the next league. It’s usually like the top two teams automatically advance and then a select number of other teams play a playoff and the winner of the playoffs also move up.

Once a team makes the Premier League you are playing the very best of the very best and being the best in that league is an all time honour for your city. So, it’s less simple and actually a really cool system. Though if the NHL were like that, the decade of darkness would have put us in the equivalent of a beer league… :/
