I refuse to purchase any Conference Champions or Cup Finals apparel unless we actually win the Cup. Both items become almost instantly unwearable if we lose.

Strangely my kid bought a 24 conf champ hat and wears it with pride. He gets some shit from his buddies about it sometimes, that they didn't win the cup, but he comes back at them regarding whatever team they cheer for not even making it. He already said he is getting a 25 champ hat, no matter what happens in the final (which means I'm actually buying it, cause he is 11, lol, but that is a different conversation)

Another one bites the dust.

Flames
Canucks
Stars

Probably the Kings and Vegas too.

Seems like we're slamming cup windows shut like its our job.

I ordered the Weastern Conference Championship/2024 Stanley Cup flag from the NHL shop last year and it didn’t arrive until game 4. So being the smart guy that I am with my battered wife syndrome and what not I order the 2025 cup final flag and they are saying expected delivery is the 23rd of June. The god damn cup will have been handed out already!!! Stupid merchants at the NHL and bloody fanatics.
next time save your money for the "Stanley Cup champions" flag ;)

Fair enough, and in the big picture a WC championship IS something to be proud of. In the big picture, looking back years lol.

However, every single time I would grab that hat to put it on part of me would die inside. Like fondly remembering the time you missed winning the lottery by a number.

I was gonna buy a jersey last year with the cup on it but only if they won, glad I didn't.

I bought one last summer when Sport Check had a clearance on them. I don't know where it is. Might've donated it to by buddies man cave

Something to think about is winning a division now involves beating out more clubs than used to be just in the 6 team NHL. Winning a conference final now is akin to what winning a cup was in 16 team NHL.

With 32 teams now winning conference, with 16 teams in each conference is no walk in the park. Takes 3 round wins to do it. Even the players put the hat on. Its not nothing.

Say what you will, this should make a big difference. Leon didn't start the playoffs healthy, but he's healthier than starting last year's final.

That's a huge difference, he was a shell of his former self the latter half of the Dallas series and in the entire Florida series. Granted, Ekholm might now be what 2024 Finals Ekholm was and no Hyman but a healthy Draisaitl is a game changer.

Oh yeah, I get you. In fact I tried talking him out of the purchase, because again, he was 10 years old at the time, and didn't have $50 for a hat, so I bought it for him. I tried explaining this to him, but he was just super jacked that they made it to the final. Something to be learned via the young ones every once and a while.

Yep, the league only had 21 teams for all of our cup wins. Making the final now is almost as hard as it was to win it all back then.

The tying goal went off a skate it's like blaming desmith for kanes goal. I'd say their d choked it away by letting him skate through both of them and wrap it around off one of their feet
Blackwood was well out of position though and if we’re being honest the GWG was him not using his stick to deflect a pass almost right across the goal line and then being slow getting over.

Rested and healthy Kane is huge too. He actually pointed that out as personally a big thing for him.

This is one of the only leagues I can think of that hand waves Division and Conference championships, and “winning the league” (President’s Trophy). There really should be more respect put to them, but the Stanley Cup will always be the ultimate prize

Hate to say it but healthy Kane might have been the difference last year. Losing Hyman sucks but overall this team is in better shape with a better supporting cast (the Panthers are arguably better than last year but even with some good players brought in they lost some good ones as well)

The league is watered down. The NHL has AHL level teams and the AHL has ECHL level teams.

During the regular season, yeah.

I'd almost say the advent of LTIR relief has led to the NHL having a pseudo-soft salary cap for the top teams. That has let all of them really stock up talent in a way that probably hasn't happened in a very long time.

However it comes about the NHL has haves and have-nots. We spent a decade being the have-nots.

There was still four rounds though. This mitigates the difference to some degree, though I think it can be argued that the number of really good teams was also less back then. What was absolutely a lot easier was making the playoffs. A team like this year's Oilers could take the playoffs 100% for granted.

If there’s one thing we learned from last years final it’s shoot high on Bob, preferably blocker side.
He gets rattled if you get to him early and that's the key.

He's not invincible and he's facing the best team he's seen in 3 years.

Well, we will have some answers within about 52 hours. I like the Oiler's chances.
