Post-Game Talk: Oil flooding the infirmary

Woah woah woah, let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water here, he has a point.

The last 5 years this place has become IMMENSELY toxic and especially so in the last year. Look at the the thread page numbers. PGTs from losses are typically have 3 or 4 times the amount of posts than PGTs from wins. And there’s a massive amount of users (again most have accounts that were created < 5 years ago) who ONLY appear when we lose. You think that’s a healthy community?

And that’s not even the most unacceptable part. How many times have you seen people post on PGTs or GDTs where they say something along the lines of “I hope the Oilers lose because of X”? I’ve seen probably 3 or 4 in the last week alone. If I was a moderator here that would be an automatic ban from HFOil. We are Oilers fans. If you aren’t cheering for the team you can f*** all the way off. Criticsm is fine. But to say you want the team to lose because they chose to start the goalie you don’t like is not acceptable.

I remember how miserable it was when we missed the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. We dreamt of a time where we are at the top of the league and a contender to win the cup. Now we’re there and somehow this place is factors of 10 more miserable than it was when we sucked. Like we literally have active firing personnel threads when we are fighting for first in the division. Do you know how disconnected from reality you have to be to think that’s even a reasonable point of view?

But I guess HFOil is a good representation of how society has deteriorated since the pandemic. Nobody is interested in positivity or success. They only seek to tear things down. To bring others down to their level because they’re miserable. And yes I can absolutely leave if I “get too worked up” but there’s good people here too with good insights and great conversation. How is it fair that I should leave this community over this infestation of f***ing idiots?

Anyways, rant over.
I dare say labeling a portion of fanbase here as an "infestation of idiots" is doing the same thing that you're complaining about. That isn't criticism as you put it, its maligning.

I get bothered by the "hope we lose" posting too but with the perspective that it was never worse than when fans here were baking the "bank to tank" thing for a whole solid decade, the org was doing it, and many figured that was fine.

The feeling that its MOST negative here in last 5yrs is I think possible distortion. The ironic "hope" days were the worst. If only as those were a pretty blatant org lie, and lying to the fanbase that buys tickets.

You know what, theres never going to be one size fits all here and within reason its OK to have varying viewpoints. On a societal level I think the deterioration has been in debasing and flaming others, or others views. Not saying you, just that its exactly there that the dialog stops. I used Skinner Stans a couple times yesterday and I shouldn't. We could all be better and we're all human. Bad thing about internet in any given moment you don't know how the other poster is feeling.

Heres a contrast. Its easiest to be "OK" with a state of things when nothing is really at stake. It was like that in Oilers kingdom for decades outside 2006 outlier season run. Nothing expected, nothing occurring. But in the same way a fanbase that feels "long suffering" and who am I to say thats accurate or not, its a feeling, some might want to have a bit of cake now knowing that the opportunity with this org possibly never comes again and that the pain of following the club was perhaps palpable. .

We're fans of an org that isn't particularly astute or at least hasn't been since the 80's So that people are very much feeling the time has to be now, and maybe worried that the org is blowing the chance, as really they have mostly blown the last decade of McDrai. Overall we have the two very best players on the planet, and parlay from that should be greater than its been. Its OK for me to express that, others too, and for ranging views to be acceptable, and be discussed. I get that fatigue happens too on a board. As much as it goes in circles we're all here by choice until we are not.

Yeah my parents have both had the surgery. Dad told me about a day when he just stopped using his glasses entirely. I've never really needed them but it's a comforting thought. I've got the pre-surgery drops then I'll grab the post-surgery ones just after. I'm glad there's not a lengthy recovery time either.
My wife is a health care aide who assists patients pre and post cataract surgery. It’s all she does every day. She says everyone is nervous and hesitant when they come in to have the first eye done, and champing at the bit when they return for the second one, understanding what a cakewalk it is. You don’t have a thing to be concerned about.

Yeah it’ll be fine. It’s just that’s the two places that people really don’t want to have touched and one is the eyes.

I’m sure you can guess what the other is.

For those who haven't seen this. Basically, this team is heading into utterly uncharted territory.

Their overall good health has been pretty amazing.

Draisaitl and McDavid were both scratched for the last game of the regular season last year but we also scratched Ekholm, Bouchard, Kane, Nuge and Hyman. Colorado played their full lineup because they were trying to get Mackinnon an Art Ross and a Hart.

Pulling up numbers from that game doesn't really mean anything.
