Obviously there are some players here who only played a few NHL games and some haven't even been drafted but I chose to assume that they will continue to develop as planned!

I think (hope?) that 2022 will see a real change of the guard within USA Hockey and that they will for once choose their team based on talent rather than role. Not many returnees from 2014 but Kessel will be 34, Wheeler 35, Pavelski 37...

You could argue that Nick Leddy and John Carlson should be there to provide a steadying veteran presence on the blueline but by then Ghost and Trouba will be 28 and Jones 27. Combined, these blueliners should have thousands of NHL games under their belt. Noah Hanifin could continue to progress and be in the discussion. I'm also bullish on Bode Wilde and Mattias Samuelsson so we will see...

At forward I think it's tough to make a case for Alex DeBrincat, right wing is pretty stacked and Boeser and Wahlstrom are shooters too but have size. Wahlstrom should be able to PK too.

I think Alex Tuch, Christian Fischer, Jack Roslovic, Brady Tkachuk and Joel Farabee will be in the discussion as skilled forwards who can provide scoring and penalty killing and I can see two of them taking the last 2 forward spots. This line-up lacks a bit of goal scoring punch at left wing so maybe Kieffer Bellows will be in a position to earn a spot. Alex Turcotte and Arthur Kaliyev are going to go very high in the 2019 draft and will be other names to watch.

Noah Hanifin could continue to progress and be in the discussion. I'm also bullish on Bode Wilde and Mattias Samuelsson so we will see...

Marchand could be there too. Then you have to look at the best young guys in the game and also LD since the returning list has none of them. I gotta think Mitch marner has a good shot of being on the team, Barzal, Hubredeau, McKinnon, Mcdavid, Scheifele, Monahan, Stone, Point, Couturier all have lock status or are as good a shot as any plus Stamkos who only missed Socchi due to injury.

As for Defencemen Ekblad, Reilly, Hamilton, Paryko are all names that could go.

Keep any eye out for this name though, Quinton Byfield he will be an sophmore so probably not but he could be an absolute monster and make it like doughty did in 2010.

Really? Is he really such top prospect?

I believe so yes. He is the consensus to be taken first in 2019 as of now. A lot can change in a year+ but he is extremely talented.

His scoring stats are tracking favorably to Eichel, Matthews and Keller’s with the US program.

He will have a couple of NHL seasons under his belt by 2022 so I project him to be on the roster - where I have my doubts is if he stays at center.

Immediately following the 2014 Olympics I was very confident that a team Canada in 2018, assuming NHL participation, would be very strong and the clear favourite. I have quite a different outlook on 2022. There have been too many weak drafts for Canada this decade.

Doesnt matter if every draft from now to then is crap. 2008 - 2015 drafts were unreal for Canadian talent.
The USA could very well have the higher end talent, but we would 100% be deeper.

People need to remember talent like Barzal, Marner, Point, Konecny, Mackinnon, Bo Horvat, Sean Monahan all in the system.

What we need to worry about is what comes after the 97 age group

I think that 2018 would have given Canada it's strongest deepest team ever. From top to bottom absolutely stacked. As with you, I'm not as stoked for 2022. Lot's of depth, fewer top-end players, with some in-betweeners based on their age and development.

Hoping some guys already in the NHL come along quickly.

I think you are just over reacting a tad bit to a couple down years for Canada in the draft. the 2019 and especially the 2020 drafts are absolutely loaded with Canadian talent....Now whether talent from these drafts, like say a Lafrienire is ready to make an impact at that level is to be determined but there is definitely still a ton of talent to come.

The top six is obviously the fastest and most skilled in the world, while Couturier will help with defensive duties on an otherwise offense-oriented third line. That fourth line is a traditional shutdown unit which will draw the big dogs from other countries.

On D, you have exceptional mobility with Vlasic-Doughty taking on defensive duties and the other two pairings a good blend of two-way ability.

Goal is probably the team's biggest strength, but much of that relies on Price coming around in four years' time.

Overall, great team, but probably not as elite as this year's would have been with Bergeron, Keith and a younger Crosby.
