When Quinn was formally announced, the release said he was joining Mike Vellucci and Ty Hennes on Sullivan's staff. So either he has a longer contract than thought or he quietly got an extension.Has this team even spoken about Mike Vellucci re-signing? I remember his contract ending 2023-24, so currently he shouldn't be part of the Penguins at all, no?
Unless he signed another extension none of us know about. Reirden was fired when he was already done his final year, which is whatever, kind of idiotic when you can just say you elect to not bring back so and so. But Vellucci, no word.
It was clear that Vellucci's contact was to mirror the same expiry as Todd Reirden. Todd's contract was to end after this season and Vellucci got his 2yr extension in 2022 to conclude at seasons end. When Quinn was formally announced, the release said he was joining Mike Vellucci and Ty Hennes on Sullivan's staff. The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed assistant coach Mike Vellucci to a two-year contract extension running through the 2023-24 season. Vellucci has been with the Penguins organization for three seasons, the last two being with the NHL squad.
I honestly don't know.It was clear that Vellucci's contact was to mirror the same expiry as Todd Reirden. Todd's contract was to end after this season and Vellucci got his 2yr extension in 2022 to conclude at seasons end.
Edit: maybe it's the wording I'm being mixed up with and his contract ends after this next season.
Vellucci is not a problem at all. The PK was fine. If anything at times he had options that weren't good for the PK and that's hardly his fault.I honestly don't know.
What I do know is I'm disappointed he's still here, though he was less of an issue than Reirden. I assumed Quinn was always going to be hired. My hope was that they'd counter that by also letting Vellucci walk and hiring a power play specialist.
Disappointing.
