Wisconsin 3, formerly undefeated #1 Minnesota 1. UW has quite a goalie!

There was a Byce playing in the game for the Badgers. That makes me feel old. His dad played for the Badgers and the Milwaukee Admirals and some team called the Bruins.

Must be a different coach and goalie?​

The Badgers Women's hockey team won their 6th NCAA title defeating #1 ranked Northeastern 2-1 in OT. It was a well played game in Erie, PA. NE's goalie reminds me of Ken Dryden. She averages 0.67 GAA and had 9 SO during the season. You will see her on the US Olympic team and at the World Championships. Her name is Aerin Frankel. She is 5'5" but plays like 6'0". The Badgers hit the post about 4 times but Frankel is amazing at positioning herself.

I second your feelings about Frankel, with amplification. She is a generational women's hockey player, her name worthy of being spoken in the same breath as Marie-Philip Poulin & Hilary Knight. Not sure what her near-future plans are in hockey, but IMO they have to be split between the 2022 Olympics (presuming the U.S. stays committed to sending the athletes to Beijing) & returning for a second senior year @ Northeastern (with 5th year options added by the NCAA due to COVID interruptions). In either case (both don't seem workable together), or maybe even the NWHL (presuming that league survives) , she will continue to be fun to watch.

Meanwhile, there are some extraordinarily talented young women on the Badgers' championship team as well: senior forward Daryl Watts (she of the 2021 Frozen Four Final OT game winner); junior forward Sophie Shirley; another junior forward Britta Curl; and freshman forward Makenna Webster (from my hometown ) to name a few. Coach Johnson has a very strong collection of underclasswomen who could compete for another national championship (or two), and he & his senior ladies have some big decisions ahead - if not already made - about returning for another year. Women's hockey should see a peak year in 2021-22 with the 5th year options open, making it an even more entertaining game to follow than it already is.

Could Granato have overlooked Bemidji any more than that? My gut sank when I saw Rowe wasn't starting. Bemidji played a solid game and I give massive credit to Tom Serratore for that. Wisconsin played like a collection of individuals and it showed on the scoreboard.

I don't follow NCAA hockey that much, but try to watch the Regionals and Frozen 4. My take on the game was the number of unforced turnovers Wisconsin made that ended up in their net. Bemidji played an almost perfect game and kept Wisconsin on their heels for most of the game. But, fully agree with your observation on the individual play of Wisconsin.

This Dec. 10th Badgers weekend preview from Madison.com provides just a hint ...

... The Badgers likely will be without two forwards for the series. Owen Lindmark and Ryder Donovan have been held out of practices with injuries. ...

Then from the same source, a 29 January UW game summary mentioned him under scratches ... "F Owen Lindmark (injured, out for season)."

I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

I wonder if they'll be able to land Hastings from Mankato. I always wanted to see what he could do at a program with more resources. He did interview for the Michigan State job so it seems he's willing to jump ship.

Since this thread is labeled "OFFICIAL" it must be.

What irregular HFB activity exists re. NCAA DI news (player or otherwise) has in recent years been posted in annual NCAA DI threads in this forum (e.g. the current one). But for your specific player question, I'd recommend reposting it in the much higher volume NHL Draft- Prospects forum. All I can add is that the Wiki page for current Kraken A-GM Jason Botterill contains no citation of a relationship with Ryan. Maybe "Botterill" is a common surname in Western Canada.

I am at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off today and tomorrow. I should be seeing Botterill and the Badgers playing in both 5 PM CT games.

As far as I know, this is the Badgers only forum on here. It just isn't that active.

Game 1 is the Alaska Nanooks versus the UConn Huskies starting in 12 minutes at 1:30 CT in the Fiserv Forum.

The Badgers have 8 NHL draft picks and UConn has three.

UConn 2-0 after Period 1. Ethan Whitcomb scored a PPG inside the far post. Jake Richard scored from the left circle off a face off in the last minute. The SOG were 11-4 UConn.


UConn scored a PPG 49 seconds into the period. Trey Scott over the shoulder on the near post to make it 3-0 on 13 shots. The Alaska (Fairbanks) goalie Nicholas Grabko favors the left post. That habit is not helping him.

At 9:24, Chase Dafoe scored on a pass from behind the UConn net to get Alaska on the board. He went 5-hole to make it 3-1 UConn. The SOG were 15-10 Alaska Nanooks.


In Period 3, UConn scored on a rebound at 7:15. Jake Percival went 5-hole from 10 feet away to make it 4-1. The game has been chippy in this period.

The Final was 4-1 UConn. SOG were 12-10 Huskies.

After resurfacing half the ice between games, BOTH Zambonis have left. The white/blue Zamboni had its' rear wheels spinning in place. It had too much snow on the pick up blades. The black/gray (Perkins) Zamboni picked up two huge snow piles and left the ice to dump it all. That one came back to finish the job. I don't know if Fiserv Forum rents these for the once a year event or not.

Edit: Both Zambonis came back before the Badgers - Ferris State Bulldogs game.

Senior Tommy Scafone (#30) is in goal for Wisconsin. Kyle Kukkonen, Christian Fitzgerald and Cody Laskosky up front with Dmen Daniel Laatsch and Jack Horbach.

Quinn Finley tucked the puck inside right post at 4:40 for the Badgers. The SOG are 12-3 Wisconsin. With 1:25 to go Ryland Mosely scored on a rebound from Quinn Finley. The SOG are 23-5 Badgers.


Badgers score a PPG via Kyle Kukkonen, assists to Fitzgerald and Lindmark at 5:28 of Period 2. The SOG are 28-8 Badgers.

Botterill is playing RW on Lindmark's line with Tassy. He is the team Captain this season. Now Botterill is on the LW. Ryland Mosely scored unassisted at 13:35. The SOG 32-9. Botterill had been on the ice just before the goal. Badgers score again on a pass from behind the net to Cody Laskosky near the right post, assisted by Daniel Laatsch at 15:14 to make it 5-0. Quinn Finley scores on a backhanded breakaway. Assisted by Gavin Morrissey at 18:15 to make it 6-0. Now 7-0 with 30 seconds left. Cody Laskosky pokes the puck in with an assist to Fitzgerald. The SOG are 38-10.

Xavier Jean-Louis was jawing after the horn with a Badgers player. The Linesmen skated him back to his team's bench.


In Period 3, Botterill is on a different line. Sawyer Scholl is his Center now. Dyck is the Center between Botterill (RW) and Tassy with 8 minutes to go. I guess that Lindmark is working with different wingers? With less than 3 minutes remaining, the SOG are 55-23 Badgers. The Badgers scored with 0.8 seconds remaining to make it 8-0. Kyle Kukkonen scored with assists to Cody Laskosky and Owen Lindmark.

Four different Badgers scored two goals, Finley, Mosley, Kukkonen and Laskosky.

I have been to 1000 hockey games. It was only the second Zamboni incident that I have ever seen.

The other one was at the Bradley Center during an intermission of an Admirals game. Octavio, the regular Zamboni driver, was not working. His replacement (back-up) slammed the Zamboni into the end boards at about 5 mph close to where we were sitting in the second row near the south goal. The boards flexed about 4 inches at the top in our direction. I grabbed my daughter when it looked like he wasn't slowing down, in case the plexiglass panes were going to come down. No visible damage occurred. About 10 seconds, later, the Zamboni resumed its' normal turn behind the crease and finished the rest of the resurfacing job. (They only had one Zamboni in those ancient IHL days.)

When my wife and other daughter came back, she mentioned hearing a loud boom. It told her that it was a Zamboni crash. She had a disbelieving look on her face. The older daughter got up and touched the glass and said "it hit here".

My most recent Zamboni tale was from a recent NAHL game in Springfield, IL. The young man driving paused near center ice & inexplicably dropped a load (of snow & water, that is) on his last pass between the 2nd & 3rd periods. He then drove out the rink doors & disappeared. When the officials returned to the ice, one of the referees noticed the refrozen mess & instructed the arena announcer to page the facility crew for dealing with it. Three pages later over a 10-minute delay, one of the linesmen retrieved a shovel & did the best scrape he could managed before play resumed. I reckon the offending Zamboni operator just kept driving, out of the complex & back home to answer the call from his boss advising him of his official dismissal.

The 1:30 Game is Alaska vs Ferris State.

Alaska Fairbanks scored a PPG at 4:48. It was Matt Hubbarde, a Senior Forward from Pickering, Ont.

Alaska scored at 10:18. Matt Koethe, a Senior Forward from Minnetonka, MN with assists to Luke Johnson, a Junior Forward from St Cloud, MN and Chase Dafoe, a Junior Forward from Beverly, MA.

Alaska is on a PP after Ferris State minor for Roughing. FS killed it. The SOG were 17-4 and the score 2-0 Alaska Fairbanks.


In Period 2, Alaska scored a SHG at 9:04. It was by Chase Dafoe, with an assist to Kyle Gaffney, a Junior Forward from Plymouth, MI. The SOG are 21-8 Alaska. The Nanooks killed one minute of 5-on-3 late in the period. The SOG were 12-8 Ferris State and 25-16 overall for Alaska with a 3-0 lead.


In period 3, Ferris State scored a PPG by Logan Heroux, a Freshman Dman from Middletown, NJ, with assists from Kaleb Ergang, a Senior Forward from Spruce Grove, AB and Conner McGrath, a Junior Forward from LeRoy, SK at 2:56. That makes the score 3-1 Alaska Fairbanks. Ferris State is on the PP. It 2as killed. Alaska scores an ENG from distance by Matt Richard, a Grad Dman from Coventry, RI, with an assist to Kyle Gaffney at 17:07.

SOG 11-11 and Alaska wins Third Place 4-1.
